Beauty and pathos This movie captures with amazing sensitivity how the tragedy at Nagasaki affects the lives of a contemporary Japanese family. Kurosawa allows us to enter the imaginations of children who struggle to come to terms with their history. Yet in spite of the grim subject matter, the movie is uplifting. Superb use of music by Schubert and Vivaldi add additional pathos to a heartbreaking story. The scene in which the kids sing Schubert's "Heidenroslein" song in Japanese always moves me to tears. A beautiful, deeply human experience. By selma6662001 (Hewitt, TX, USA) This review is for a different format.
