THE GITS- Frenching the Bully is the first full length studio album put out by The Gits. It was first released in 1992 and followed by months of touring. It was received famously in music press on both sides of the Atlantic and had the music industry buzzing about this "new" Seattle upstart punk band. This album is raw, intense, angry, tender and passionate. It has been out of print since 1994 and after a ten year fight with the record label that put it out, The Gits have reclaimed rights to the album and their murdered singer, Mia Zapata's musical legacy. The album has been remixed and re-mastered by producer Jack Endino (Nirvana, Therapy?, Mudhoney, Supersuckers, Blue Cheer etc.) and 10 bonus live tracks have been added. This was the album that started it all. Viva Zapata!
Remixed from the original master tapes by Jack Endino and The Gits. The Gits: Mia Zapata (vocals); Joe Spleen (guitar); Matt Dresdner (bass); Steve Moriarty (drums). The most immediately obvious aspect of the Gits' debut album, Frenching the Bully, is Mia Zapata's righteous, feminist-tinged punk rage. Her songs wind their way through tales of deception, insecurity, failed relationships, and hard drinking, while her hoarse, husky voice supports the combination of toughness and vulnerability projected in her lyrics. Even if Zapata's meanings are occasionally a bit obscure, and even if a few songs seem to lack adequate melodicism, Frenching the Bully is an invigorating piece of punk rock. ~ Steve Huey FRENCHING THE BULLY, the Gits' debut album--and the only one released before the murder of singer Mia Zapata--encapsulates the band's sound and fury in a way that few debuts do. The skeleton of their sound, Steve Moriarty's high-speed drumming, is fleshed out with Matt Dresdner's astonishingly flexible bass and Joe Spleen's scorched-earth guitar heroics. The real star, though, is Zapata's voice. Occasionally ragged and often spine-chilling, but always powerful--comparisons to Janis Joplin are not entirely unwarranted--she belts out lyrics that often deal with the struggle to survive in the face of internal or external hostility. Standouts include "Another Shot of Whiskey," an extremely catchy slab of vitriol with some very subtle hooks, the swaggering "Slaughter of Bruce," a take on country punk (emphasis on the punk) with a drum break more passionate than skillful, and the pair of "While You're Twisting I'm Still Breathing" and "Cut My Skin it Makes Me Human," both of which display a force of will rarely seen in rock music. The album's masterpiece, though, is the snarling "Second Skin," a brittle slice of self-analysis strapped to the body of a runaway freight train. FRENCHING THE BULLY is an American punk rock classic.
Alternative Press (4/93, p.61) - "...a fair portion of the cuts [on FRENCHING THE BULLY] display that true punk-rock work ethic....FRENCHING THE BULLY burns..." Frenching The Bully Music Gits Frenching The Bully Songs

Frenching The Bully
$11.59 This album was created with the help of producer, Jack Endino and I believe that it serves as an excellent retrospective of The Gits' short lived and hard fought career. It is also a testament to Mia Zapata's innate talent as a punk singer and her genuine passion and strength as a woman. The idea of putting together the album took shape while I spent four months in bed recovering from a shattered lower leg. I lied around listening to dozens of old board tapes of The Gits. Some of the tapes were from the last U.S. tour we did during the summer of 1993. There were several songs we played on that tour which we never had a chance to record...or so I thought. While in Los Angeles we discussed a contract for recording our third album for Atlantic. Our plan was to do a west coast tour, go home, finish our second album, and then leave on a full U.S. "Rock for Choice" tour. After that we had plans to tour Europe for a second time. Back in Seattle while recording our second album, "Enter...The Conquering Chicken", our friend and singer, Mia Zapata was murdered. She was scheduled to finish her vocal tracks the following morning but never arrived at the studio. We were all anxious to finish the album and get back on the road. But it all ended the night Mia was abducted raped and strangled to death. We spent tens of thousands of dollars and a multitude of sleepless nights trying to figure out who did it. Not surprisingly the Seattle Police proved to be of no help at all. ...

Frenching The Bully
$11.59 THE GITS second studio album. It was completed just before the murder of singer, Mia Zapata. Enter: The Conquering Chicken is one of the most influential underground rock albums of the time. It has inspired artists like Joan Jett and Indigo Girls and Pearl Jam, Sleater Kinney, Le Tigre, Rancid and The Pinkos. This album is a fresh release of The Git's second full length release. Singer Mia Zapata was murdered during the original mixing. This edition is remixed by famed (Nirvana) producer Jack Endino and re-mastered by John Golden. This is a passionate, melodic album featuring a great punk band cut down in their prime. The Gits formed in 1986 in Yellow Springs Ohio and blossomed in Seattle until 1993. Mia Zapata was murdered in July of 1993. The killer was caught after a ten year man-hunt and is on trial in Seattle at the time of writing this bio.For more on The Gits and the documentary film go to: www.thegits.com or thegitsmovie.com

| | Lucinda Williams Live @ The Fillmore West CDs (2005) Digipak
Frenching The Bully
$14.89 Personnel: Lucinda Williams (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Lucinda Williams; Doug Pettibone (guitar, lap steel guitar, pedal steel guitar, mandolin, harmonica, background vocals); Jim Christie (keyboards, drums, percussion); Taras Prodaniuk (bass guitar, background vocals). Audio Mixer: Michael Dumas. Recording information: The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA (11/20/2003/11/22/2003). Lucinda Williams has earned a reputation for her meticulous approach to making albums, but a careful listen to her work suggests that she isn't trying to make her music sound perfect, she just wants it to sound right, and she isn't afraid to spend the extra time waiting for the charmed moment to get caught on tape. This attitude seems to be borne out in her first-ever concert album, Live @ The Fillmore, which manages to sound carefully considered, and a model of "warts and all" authenticity at the same time. Recorded during a three-night stand in San Francisco, the album captures Williams' band in superb form -- Doug Pettibone's guitars, Taras Prodaniuk's bass, and Jim Christie's drums merge into a tight and emphatic groove machine that can match Williams's many ...
