Ville Valo and his gloomy crew return to their metallic roots with LOVE METAL, the band's heaviest offering since their full-length debut. Launching full force into the propulsive "Buried Alive By Love," HIM explores dirgy, Sabbath-style rock ("Sweet Pandemonium"), emotive balladry ("This Fortress of Tears"), and high-speed angst ("Soul on Fire"). But amidst the turbo-charged reinvigoration, the group retains a flair for disarmingly beautiful sounds, with flowing piano work on "The Sacrament" and a mandolin accompaniment for "The Funeral of Hearts." The closing number, "The Path," unexpectedly summons a slow-paced, '50s rock-ballad feel, and the approach imbues the tune with a unique vibe. By this 2005 album, the Finnish band's formula could have been stagnant, but through passionate performances and a desire to push its own boundaries, HIM keeps making beguiling, goth-flavored heavy rock for the masses.
The Finnish goth metal band's fourth album is sure to swell the ranks of the converted as this is their most polished, best written album yet. Ville Valo is one of the most compelling figures in Rock today and his vocals just get better with each successive release. This album could ultimately turn out to be their finest moment, however, judging from the past progression, there is probably a lot more to come. The video of "The Funeral Of Hearts" is enhanced as a special bonus.
Swedish import contains the video "The Funeral Of Hearts."
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Love Metal Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Love Metal Being new to HIM, Love Metal is a decent release with two standout songs in Sweet Pandemonium and Circle of Fear. I also own Venus Doom and Dark Light which are also decent releases. For those getting into HIM the best songs of the three CDs are:
Sleepwalking Past Hope
Killing Loneliness
Kiss of Dawn
Sweet Pandemonium
Circle of Fear
Rip out the wings of butterfly

| | Anvil Hard 'N' Heavy CD (1981)
Love Metal music CDs
$13.49 Anvil's first album, 1981's Hard 'n' Heavy, may also be their most unique, since it actually predated the band's adhesion (and key contributions) to the up-and-coming speed metal movement, beginning with their seminal sophomore outing, 1982's Metal on Metal. Instead, Hard 'n' Heavy is a transitional record compiling the best fruits of nearly a decade's worth of club shows and basement woodshedding over long cold Canadian winters by inseparable pals Steve "Lips" Kudlow (vocals/guitar) and Robb Reiner (drums), plus, more recently, bandmates Dave Allison (guitar) and Ian Dickson (bass). In fact, prior to its release through Attic Records, Hard 'n' Heavy had already been put out independently under the group's discarded moniker of Lips (where, curiously, their focus had been on S&M-inspired shock rock), so in some respects, it was the work of another band, not Anvil. This S&M connection certainly explains the exceedingly naughty sexual double-entendres ...
| | Anvil Forged In Fire CD (1983)
Love Metal songs
$13.29 The second of Anvil's two influential cult classics, FORGED IN FIRE essentially refines the blueprint laid out on METAL ON METAL, showing a band more firmly in control of its muse. Lips's vocal performance is more polished and varied, yet no less unhinged; the technical riffery of the uptempo numbers is even more challenging; and Robb Reiner delivers a jaw-dropping performance, pulling out his genre-changing double-bass-drum technique on nearly every song and never letting the record's momentum flag. Even with all the blistering intensity on display here, FORGED IN FIRE isn't the all-out assault of KILL 'EM ALL; Anvil lacked the darker visions of the coming thrash movement, clearly having too much fun to conjure a tough-guy image. The heart of the album lies in the speed metal mayhem, but the band changes things up often enough to prevent monotony; the title track is a slow, head-pounding anthem, while the metal paean "Free ...
| | H I M Razorblade Romance CD (2000)
Love Metal album
$11.65 Despite having releases available mostly on import, the Finnish metal band HIM has inspired an incredibly loyal cult following in the United States. In late 2003, Universal reissued this, the group's sophomore album from 2000 (which reportedly sold over a million copies in Europe), with two remixed tracks from HIM's debut and one new song. Combining elements of vintage glam, old-school goth, and classic rock, with a few modern touches sprinkled in, the ensemble provides potent accompaniment to frontman Ville Valo's tortured singing.
HIM's dynamic music is based on an infectious blend of metallic riffs and goth keyboards. Mixing hard rock anthems with softer ballads, the band allows Valo to wax poetic (almost psychotic) about tragic love ("Join Me in Death"), romantic fatalism ("I Love You [Prelude to Tragedy]"), and monstrous obsession ("Right Here in My Arms"). While HIM's memorable rendition of Chris ...

| | Mark Knopfler Shangri-La CD (2004) DVD-A; Wdva
Love Metal songs
$21.35 There's a wealth of unusual topics on offer here; "Boom, Like That" is a first-person monologue by Knopfler in the voice of Ray Kroc, the man behind the McDonald's fast-food empire. The bluesy "Song for Sonny Liston" chronicles the famed boxer's brushes with the underworld. "Donegan's Gone" laments the passing of British folk/skiffle pioneer Lonnie Donegan, a key influence on Knopfler and scores of other British rockers. Departing from the more folk-oriented sound of its predecessor, THE RAGPICKER'S DREAM, SHANGRI-LA more fully develops the detail-oriented, irony-laced songwriting style Knopfler first hinted at in Dire Straits tunes ...
