Album DescriptionOriginally released on Flying Fish Records in 1975, Lycurgus became a "Top National Add-on" and "Breakout" in Billboard Magazine and went on to garner a Grammy Nomination for 1975. Along with Lang's guitar work the album also featured the estimable talents of a young Peter Ostrousko, Jazz piano wizard Butch Thompson, Dobro player Cal Hand among others. PETER LANG was discovered and recorded in 1972 by the legendary guitarist John Fahey who signed Lang to his own label, Takoma Records. Fahey launched the careers of other notable artists on Takoma, including Leo Kottke, George Winston, Robbie Basho, Bola Sete and others. Peter Lang toured, recorded and performed for nearly ten years, developing a reputation as one of the nations top acoustic players. In the 70's he was in good company, having recorded or performed with Ry Cooder, John Fahey, Jerry Garcia, Chet Atkins, John Hartford, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Emmylou Harris, Leo Kottke, Freddie King, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, John Hammond, Keith Jarrett, Phoebe Snow, Maria Muldaur, The Yellowjackets, Robben Ford, and many others. Long considered one of America's premier finger-style guitarists, Lang returned to music after a 20 year hiatus from recording and performing with his critically acclaimed album DHARMA BLUES, in 2001. During his separation from writing and recording, Lang managed an Animation Studio and produced films and commercials. His vocation allowed him to continue to use his talents producing national spots for companies including MTV, COKE, HERSHEY'S, TIME, TARGET. Lang's credits include: * Eight record albums (including one with Leo Kottke and John Fahey). * Grammy Nomination, 1976 (Lycurgus) * Guitar Player Magazine 1974 - Readers Poll, " Best New Guitarist" category * Minnesota Music Awards, "Best Guitarist" 1981, 1982, 1988 * Co-author of the book 20th Century Masters of Finger-Style Guitar,1982, Stropes Editions, Ltd.DiscographyThing at the Nursery Room Window, Takoma Records 1972Fahey Lang Kottke , Takoma Records , 1974Lycurgus, Flying Fish, 1976Prime Cuts, Waterhouse Records, 1977Back to the Wall, Waterhouse Records,1978American Stock,Aspen Records, 1985Dharma Blues, Horus Records, 2002Lycurgus (Re-release w/ 5 bonus tracks) 2003 Hourus RecordsPrime Cuts(Re-release w/ 4 bonus tracks)2003 Horus RecordsPeter Lang / Guitar  (Fall 2003) Horus Records

1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff Lynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively gorgeous, McCartney-like "Telephone Line" and the anthemic "Livin' Thing" were well-deserved smashes), ELO was one of the few '70s bands whose appeal covered both the FM and AM spectrums. The album even resurrects "Do Ya," a classic single by Lynne's former band, the Move, in a splashy new version.
The next ELO album, 1977's elaborate double-album OUT OF THIS WORLD, was probably the band's commercial high point, but A NEW WORLD RECORD is the group's artistic high-water mark.
Jeff Lynne reportedly regards this album and its follow-up, Out of the Blue, as the high points in the band's history. One might be better off opting for A New World Record over its successor, however, as a more modest-sized creation chock full of superb songs that are produced ...

ELO was big enough by 1974 that some people actually suggested that ELDORADO featured Satanic backward-masking. Of course, the idea was ludicrous; but the band playfully responded by adding a backward message to "Fire on High," the opening instrumental on 1975's FACE THE MUSIC.
Besides "Fire on High," which was used as background music for countless television programs in the '70s, this album's eight lengthy tracks include two enormous hits, "Evil Woman" and the McCartneyesque ballad "Strange Magic." Decades later, these two tracks are still ...

$12.95 IFYOUBELIEVEIN is a new disc of mostly 1966 solo acoustic demos intended for FOREVER CHANGES and DA CAPO recorded by Love's principal songwriter.
Just before IFYOUBELIVEIN was received in stores, Sundazed noticed that some of the booklets were missing two paragraphs of text. Consumers who got the abbreviated booklets can exchange them for the correct version by sending their booklets only (not the CD or jewel box) to:
The release of these previously unissued acoustic solo demos was a minor revelation for Love fans. Ten of the 16 tracks were recorded in 1966 and 1967, including early versions of "Old Man" and "Orange Skies," as well as eight songs that never made it onto Love's '60s albums. Of the remaining six cuts, five were recorded in 1982, and one (a version of "Alone Again Or") in 1972, although all of these were also composed in the 1960s. MacLean's best songs are still "Alone Again Or" and "Old Man," the two compositions that ended up on Forever Changes (an excellent demo of "Old Man" concludes the CD). The set as a whole, however, reveals a singer-songwriter who was comparable to few other '60s rockers, in his fey melodicism (with little if any blues/R&B influence), transmutation of folk and flamenco influences into more pop- and rock-based structures, unexpectedly rapid key changes and irregular lyric meter, and guileless ...
