On their fifth album, the Cardigans continue down musical paths few would've predicted based on the bubbly, organ-driven lounge-pop of their first three releases, EMMERDALE, LIFE, and FIRST BAND ON THE MOON. LONG GONE BEFORE DAYLIGHT sees the Swedish ensemble emerging from the rebellious phase of 1998's icy GRAN TURISMO and forging ahead to address love, longing, and loss in more subtle ways.
The leadoff track, "Communication," finds songwriter Peter Svensson and vocalist/lyricist Nina Persson giving a nod to the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses." Tinges of American country twang also come through on "Live and Learn," and the single "For What It's Worth." Persson's soft-yet-resolute alto shows off its full force on ballads "Couldn't Care Less," and "Lead Me Into the Night." The songs of DAYLIGHT forgo immediate hooks in order to give their compositions more space to breathe and convey mood, revealing them to have more in common with Persson's 2001 solo project, A Camp (produced by Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous), than previous Cardigans releases. The effect is distinctly cinematic, and patient listeners will be richly rewarded.
Canadian edition of their 2003 album includes one bonus track, 'If There's A Chance'. 12 tracks in all including the lead off single, 'For What It's Worth'. Universal.
This Canadian edition includes one bonus track.
The Cardigans include: Nina Persson (vocals).

Long Gone Before Daylight Music Long Gone Before Daylight Music Long Gone Before Daylight Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Different yet satisfying While the latest from this Swedish group is a far departure from their kitschy pop origins, one can't help but think this is what the band wanted to be all along. Serious songs played exquisitely, the disc is well-executed and makes no promises it does not keep. After several listens it became as treasured as their earlier discs although the recordings are worlds apart Submitted by a reviewer (Madison, WI, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not bad at all! I kept on reading how this album is their worst effort and how it's boring. Well, when I read that it was boring I knew I would probably enjoy it and guess what!? I DID! And being sort of a fan of their music in the past particularly such as their album Gran Turismo, I could say that this last one is their best yet and they have evolved with their sound. There's nothing wrong with that!
Also I read how they sound so americanized *rolls eyes* and jewel-like and man if only Jewel can sound this good!
The female singer sounds better than ever as a vocalist.
Highlights in my opinion are communication, good horse, couldn't care less, and then you kissed me, live and learn, and if there is a chance.
Do yourself a favor, if you are a cardigans fan LISTEN to it and do your best to accept their new sound AND if you like just great music CHECK THIS ONE OUT! Submitted by a reviewer (New york, new york) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Long Gone Before Daylight
$7.59 The state of the music scene circa 1995 reflects a younger generation's disenchantment with society's standards, and pontificating about such matters is one of alternative rock's most popular themes. This nihilism goes beyond the realms of third or fourth generation punk. Corrosion Of Conformity touches upon this pessimistic outlook on DELIVERANCE.
Musically, C.O.C. is much darker ...
| | Fu Manchu Action Is Go CD (1997)
Long Gone Before Daylight
$7.99 Not that it's unique, yet even with half the band changed from the last time around, the twin-riff action that kicks off "Evil Eye," and The Action Is Go! as a whole, sounds like nobody else but Fu Manchu, somehow. Punk energy, classic rock drive, psychedelic crunch, and heavy-ass grind all at once -- really, is anything more needed? From there the new lineup proceeds to kick ass and take names in its own way -- music to shake one's very long hair to while cranking it up and driving around. Hill's strength as a vocalist has long been that he doesn't sound like a deep, bellowing yahoo, but that nutty kid down the block who knows how to party anyway. The Action Is Go! lets him demonstrate that in ...

While many bands lumped under the nu-metal banner seem to rely on angry posturing and shock tactics to sell records, Staind has quietly and consistently topped the sales and radio charts with a stripped-down and emotionally direct approach devoid of gimmickry. On the group's third album 14 SHADES OF GREY, singer Aaron Lewis and crew deliver a distinctly organic-sounding, mature disc that still manages to rock like a wild beast.
Powered by the pile-driving yet earthy rhythm section of bassist Johnny April and drummer Jon Wysocki, Staind stands head and shoulders above many of its contemporaries by mixing de-tuned thrash with an old-school rock & roll kick. There's a touch of bluesy Led Zeppelin mixed in with the angst, and the band's subtle sexiness serves to temper Lewis's darker melodic and lyrical instincts. Featuring songs that address everything from the joyous birth of the singer's daughter ("Zoe Jane") to the tragic death of Alice In Chains vocalist Layne Staley ("Layne"), 14 SHADES OF GREY is an unquestionably adult album created by a band at once deafeningly heavy and clearly more concerned with making art than scaring parents.
Staind broke through the nu-metal murk in 2001 with Break the Cycle because the band landed upon a rather ingenious formula -- toning down the aggression and turning up the emotion, all the while returning to the Alice in Chains-styled grunge that began the whole alt-metal mania of the '90s. Evidently, American audiences were hungry for big sensitive guys with ...
