This limited-edition of ANTHEM features a bonus DVD and T-shirt.
Still soldiering on in 2003 after spending the prior decade being overlooked by the commercial masses during the pop-punk revolution, Less Than Jake hits the ground running with ANTHEM and its collection of songs touching on the insecurity and social woes afflicting the band's core teen audience. When this Florida quintet isn't bashing out songs about a girl on the verge of a nervous breakdown ("She's Gonna Break Soon") or lacking faith in yourself ("The Science of Selling Yourself Short") they're keeping the mood suitably bleak by singing about lacking direction in life ("The Upwards War and the Down Turned Cycle").
Amid all this doom-and-gloom, horn players Buddy and JR give the proceedings a peppy edge with a one-two punch that accentuates Less Than Jake's ska influences, particularly on the caffeinated "Plastic Cup Politics" and Mighty Mighty Bosstones-flavored "Look What Happened." Even though Less Than Jake take an unusually serious approach towards ANTHEM, this former Bon Jovi opening act manages to inject some levity by including a bonus cover of "Surrender" and doing Cheap Trick proud.
Florida's Less Than Jake flies the banner of the New Punk South with its Sire debut album Anthem. The CD is enhanced with the video for 'She's Gonna Break Soon' & more plus the bonus track 'Surrender'. 2003.

agreed this cd was mediocre to say the least. granted it was there breakthrough album since hello rockview, it doesnt compare to the true sound of ska and punk they once put out. anything before borders and boundaries in fact is good.
everything after just went downhill. Submitted by sebringheights (somewhere, FL, usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Awesome Tunes This is a great CD, one of my favorites by Less Than Jake. It is definitely worth every penny. This album has some of my favorite songs on it, "The Science of Selling Yourself Short," and "Plastic Cup Politcs." But those are only two of the amazing songs on this album. It is a winner and if you are a Less Than Jake fan at all then you need to buy this CD! Submitted by Alex (Westville, UT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Rage Against The Machine Live At The Grand Olympic Auditorium CD (2003) Bonus Track
Anthem CD music
$39.09 Before vocalist Chris Cornell (ex-Soundgarden) joined forces with the displaced instrumentalists of Rage Against the Machine to form Audioslave, RATM were among the most revered acts in heavy rock. The band has since faded into the annals of rock history, having left an indelible mark, and their unmistakable sound has often been copied but never duplicated. This live album (originally planned as a two-disc set with the cover album RENEGADES), harnesses the energy and raw emotion that was an RATM concert, centered around Zach de la Rocha's unabashed social commentary, via stylish and often poetic rhyming.
On these 2000 performances, classic tracks were imbued with Zach's timely worldview, as "Killing in the Name" has its famous mantra morphed to "some of those that burn crosses/are the same that hold office," while the band precisely pummels its instruments. On "Freedom" (originally written to champion the cause of Leonard Peltier), de la Rocha chants "Free Mumia," in reference to his support of Mumia Abu-Jamal. LIVE is a final testament to the greatness of this groundbreaking group, having special significance as the final performances of RATM, recorded in the band's hometown of Los Angeles.
