An album by new-age keyboard wizard Chip Davis (AKA Mannheim Steamroller) featuring contributions from country singer C.W. McCall (of "Convoy" fame)? You might think your eyes (and ears) were decieving you if you didn't know that McCall and Davis were both working for the same ad agency decades earlier when they collaborated to get McCall's career off the ground via a commercial that parlayed into a string of country albums. McCall returns the favor on this patriotically themed collection which features such flag-wavers as "Fanfare For the Common Man" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic," not to mention--you guessed it--a new version of "Convoy." What could be more patriotric than a truckers' anthem?

Mannheim Steamroller American Spirit Songs American Spirit Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) It doesn't get any better... You must have it for the next 4th of July! You should get it as soon as possible. I lined up all my Americana discs for the last 4th (and I've got some good ones: Alabama-American Pride, Lee Greenwood-American Patriot, Denyce Graves-American Anthem, some John Phillips Sousa, some Aaron Copeland) and loved playing every minute of them. I'd almost trade all of them for this one Steamroller disc. If this one doesn't give you chills, you're living in the wrong country. GREAT AMERICANA FEELING WITH GREAT SOUND AMERICAN MUSIC WITH THE TOUCH ONLY THE STEAMROLLER CAN DO. I CAN'T FIGURE OUT THE TRUCKER SONG ANGLE WITH RESPECT TO THE OTHER SONGS ON THE CD. IT DOES NOT SEEM TO FIT IN AN OTHERWISE NICE PACKAGE. Submitted by a reviewer (ARNOLD, MO , USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Too much recycling is sometimes a bad thing... Since Fresh Aire 7 Mannheim Steamroller seems to have lost some steam...understandable after almost 30 years of making albums, but somewhat disconcerting to those fans who fork over bucks for substandard material.
There are some wonderful moments in American Spirit, and if you don't own much Mannheim Steamroller I recommend this CD wholeheartedly. If you are a big fan, though, you probably already own 2 of the tracks, including the Star-Spangled Banner (on Chip Davis' Impressions CD), and Yellowstone Morning (on Fresh Aire III). The most interesting part of this album is the inclusion of C.W. McCall, who speaks over several of the tracks including his cult hit "Convoy" from the 70's.
This CD provides a different listening experience from the rest of the Mannheim Steamroller fare, but not enough to rave about. It just seems thrown together...but it's still OK! Submitted by a reviewer (Lake Mary, FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$13.25 For this album, producer Lloyd Barde sets out to celebrate women. It would not be a stretch to interpret this title Biblically. Drawing from the story in Genesis, this compilation seeks to reclaim womanhood by casting her collective story in a more compassionate light. Indeed, the female is seen here as a liberator, not as a catalyst for a fall from grace.
