Shakira's brand new English album She Wolf is an uptempo pop album. It is all about synthesizers and electronic concepts, all mixed with the world sounds that we are used to from Shakira.. sounds from countries like India, the Middle East and her home country of Colombia. She Wolf features a predominantly English track list with a follow up album of new and unique repertoire in Spanish to come in 2010. The title track "She-Wolf " boasts the infectious and energizing sound that made Shakira a household name, with a slightly more dancey/ electronic beat (about 125 beats per minute). Though most tracks on the upcoming album will be in English, Shakira chose to service the Spanish version of the first single, "Loba", two weeks before the English single is launched.
Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. After releasing The Aluminum Group's second album, 1998's PLANO, Minty Fresh Records rescued the band's 1995 debut from obscurity and augmented the reissue with 10 previously unreleased tracks. There's a certain similarity to the Magnetic Fields in "The Smallest Man In The World," and the beautifully sparse opener, "Chocolates," bears striking resemblance to the beatnik-y jazz-pop of the Young Marble Giants.
Elsewhere, Frank and John Navin's spacious arrangements-heavy on acoustic guitars and upright bass and colored by subtle keyboards-recall Everything But The Girl and Felt. Yet Aluminum Group never resorts to mere mimicry. Admittedly, following up a chamber-pop version of Guns N Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine" with a very similar arrangement of Lerner and Lowe's "Loverly" betrays a certain twisted genius. Aluminum Group certainly doesn't rock-even at the Navins' most heated moments, the music just sways gently from side to side-but WONDER BOY PLUS is a soft-pop gem.

In 1968, this collection would have found a place on Top 40 AM radio alongside the Beatles, Buck Owens, the Four Tops, and the Beach Boys. In the world of the '90s, it is not going to be so easy for this wild bunch of seasoned industry vets to get heard. Appealing and intoxicating, the band, which includes onetime Shaver producer R.S. Field, rocks and rolls with deeply planted roots. Tunes written by Field and such notables as the legendary Billy Joe Shaver, Nashville cat Webb Wilder, and honky tonk guitar wonder Mike Henderson, give this project plenty of substance. Impressive is the all-instrumental "Twangeaux," with surf guitar overtones and plenty of twangy riffs.
