Personnel includes: Otis Spann (vocals, piano); Johnny Young, Sammy Lawhorn, Pee Wee Madison, Johnny Young, Muddy Waters (guitar); James Cotton, James Cotton (harmonica); Jimmy Lee Morris, Calvin Jones, Willie Dixon (bass); Francis Clay, S.P. Leary (drums). Pianist Otis Spann played in Muddy Waters' band from 1953 to 1970, and was instrumental in creating the electric Chicago blues sound. These 11 tracks were recorded in the mid-'60s by Down Beat magazine editor Pete Welding, and were previously released as Otis Spann's Chicago Blues on Testament Records. This reissue omits the solo Spann material from the original disc and highlights the group recordings featuring S.P. Leary, Johnny Young, James Cotton, Willie Dixon, and Muddy Waters. While not as revolutionary as the records Spann played on with Muddy in the late '50s, you can't deny this lineup of seminal Chicago bluesmen doing what they did best. ~ Al Campbell Heritage Of The Blues: I Wanna Go Home Music Otis Spann Heritage Of The Blues: I Wanna Go Home Songs Heritage Of The Blues: I Wanna Go Home Review

Heritage Of The Blues: I Wanna Go Home
$11.59 This inventive creative duo are caked in gritty, high wattage garage punk and B-movie rock n roll, a twisted influence of greaser / garage rock sounds, adjusted with an art punk mentality. Birdman 2003.
Personnel: B.R. Wallers (vocals, guitar); Joe Patt, Leighton Crook (drums). Recording information: 2002. Arranger: B.R. Wallers. The majority of four-track recordings are merely chronicles of personal achievement filled with unfinished ideas, inside jokes, and masturbatory instrumentals intended for late-night listening with drunken friends. At some bleary point in the evening, the conversation inevitably turns to world domination through the eventual release of the material on a major label, resulting in a morning of humiliation and regret at the thought ...

The 1980s weren't kind to Merle Haggard--the decade's air of ersatz optimism and its featherweight pop songs were anathema to his gritty, workingman ballads, while country music's newfound prissy puritan streak signaled the demise of the traditional drinking song that remained his forte. Despite his lack of chart success, however, Haggard's remarkable songwriting abilities are very much in evidence ...
