SPEAKERBOXXX/THE LOVE BELOW won the 2004 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year and for Best Rap Album. "Hey Ya!" won for Best Urban/Alternative Performance. The song was also nominated for Record Of The Year.
Simply put, there is no band that does anything close to what Outkast does. Big Boi & Andre 3000 have consistently managed to maintain mainstream success while obliterating the limits of what is considered to be hip-hop. Frolicking at the outskirts of language, they throw every genre into a blender and make every musical turn sound organic. SPEAKERBOXXX/THE LOVE BELOW is actually two solo records fused together, the former by Big Boi, the latter by Andre 3000, with each mind working at an equally frantic pace to create a gloriously split sonic experience.
Big Boi opens with a techno intro that fades into industrial-style grinding on "Ghettomusick," before settling into more traditional, although far from ordinary, rap tracks on "Unhappy" and "The Way You Move." His most salient moment comes on "War," an uncompromising condemnation of American politics that strikes the perfect balance of righteous rage and measured speech. When Dre takes the reins, the concoction gets wonderfully weirder with everything from the piano bar pop of "Love Hater" to the call and response of "She Lives in My Lap" to the mystery mix of the outstanding single "Hey Ya!" Following the remarkable STANKONIA, SPEAKERBOXXX/THE LOVE BELOW cements Outkast's position as rap innovators and keeps them in the lead as the genre's primary visionaries.
Includes an untitled hidden track at the end of Disc 2.

Dmx Grand Champ CD (2003)
Streetsweeper, Vol. 1 songs DMX loves dogs, and feels a connection to them; he's certainly never made a secret of it, infusing his raps with numerous references to man's best friend. On the intro to his fifth record, GRAND CHAMP, the East Coast rapper/actor asserts his canine preference as, not surprisingly, the pit bull ("they make good companions, but even worse enemies/it's all in how you take 'em"). It's a fitting portrait of the gruffer-than-gruff-voiced, remarkably uncompromising hardcore rapper, who leaves the listener to either embrace his stark world or get the hell out.
GRAND CHAMP reveals DMX to be as fierce as ever ("only know how to be one way, that's the thug"), spewing his usual blend of unconstrained love and vitriol. He follows the intro with one of his trademarked laying-it-on-the-line rants before launching into a series of furious condemnations. Like 2Pac and Nas, DMX has learned the value of the schizophrenic combination of the inspirational and the ultra-violent; he could be his own greatest companion and his fiercest enemy. It's this quality that makes him one of the most intriguing hip-hop superstars out there, and GRAND CHAMP continues his larger-than-life legacy.
Personnel includes: DMX, Swizz Beatz, Chinky, Sheek, Syleena Johnson, Infa-Red, Cross And Drag-on, Eve, Jadakiss, Cam'Ron, Big Stan, Monica, Magic Val, Patti LaBelle.
Producers include: Tuneheadz, No I.D., DJ Scratch, Joaquin "Waah" Dean, Swizz Beats.

Diplomats Diplomatic Immunity CDs (2003)
Streetsweeper, Vol. 1 album for sale Principally recorded at Baseline, Quad, Sony Music, and Hit Factory Studios, New York, New York.
For his fourth release Cam'ron enlists the talents of three up-and-comers (Juelz Santana, Freeky Zeekey, and Jimmy Jones) for a colorful and extended foray through New York mores in general and those of their respective 'hoods in Harlem in particular. A typical cut, "Ground Zero," is ostensibly 9/11-related, but closer listening will reveal that it's about that gangsta staple, drugs, the thugs that deal them, and the marks that take them. There are flashes of humor amid the gritty material; "Real Ni***s," with its accompanying skit, neatly skewers the "keeping it real" philosophy, and has a smooth Gamble & Huff sample to boot.
The overall thug-life lyrical slant is leavened with other imaginative samples and arrangements of this ilk, and the double-CD format gives the posse the space to display its comedic skills over the course of several skits. DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY could easily be accused of overkill, but on this showing it just means that there's more of the Diplomats to love.

Juelz Santana From Me to U CD (2003) Top Seller
Streetsweeper, Vol. 1 CD music "Dipset (Santana's Town)" was nominated for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group.
Cam'Ron's protege Juelz Santana goes it alone after debuting as part of the Diplomats crew on DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY. Here he steers clear of that crew's obsession with drugs, guns, and money--well, at least the drugs and guns part.
The key here is the keyboard-inflected "Why," where Santana runs down the reasons he's in the game, like watching ROCKY III when he was "a tiny little poppy seed, as grimy as I could be," and comes as close as any rapper ever gets to waxing philosophical about his life and motives. Furthermore "My Problem (Jealousy)"finds him apologizing for hitting his girlfriend, and getting into sticky relationship details to boot. FROM ME TO U is, therefore, no ordinary gangsta rap collection, and while Santana's flow might not be up to that of some of his contemporaries just yet, there's enough evidence here to point to some considerable talent lurking beneath the bravura.
Recorded at Sony Music Studios, Quad Studios, and Baseline Studios, New York, New York; Big Bud Studios, Atlanta, Georgia.

Gang Starr Ownerz CD (2003)
Streetsweeper, Vol. 1 buy CD music Working as Gang Starr for over 15 years, Guru & DJ Premier have more than earned their reputation as one of the most skilled, intelligent hip-hop outfits ever to grab the microphone and work the turntables.
With Gang Starr's prior release, the underrated HARD TO EARN, seemingly in the distant past (five years), THE OWNERZ reflects the deliberate nature of the meticulous duo. While Premier earned legendary status as producer on some of rap's most enduring records, he seems to do something extra for his home team, and THE OWNERZ may be his tightest work yet. From the Curtis Mayfield-esque opening of "Sabotage" to the deliriously offbeat feedback and horns of "Who Got Gunz," there's not one false note. Add Guru's patented, steady-but-unassuming swagger, and THE OWNERZ is precisely what the hip-hop world expects from Gang Starr, another classic.

Streetsweeper, Vol. 2: The Pain from the Game CD (2004)
Streetsweeper, Vol. 1 songs DJ Kayslay has been a part of the hip-hop world practically since its inception. As a graffiti artist and DJ, the man goes back to the days when the music and the culture were truly underground. However, he didn't become huge until about 30 years later, when rap had gone platinum and a new underground had formed--that of mix tapes. After Kayslay gained a reputation as one of the premier mix-tape DJs, Columbia Records released a legitimate version of his STREETSWEEPER series. The jam-packed, star-studded follow-up, THE STREETSWEEPER VOL. 2, is an energetic mix-tape ride.
The battles start, fittingly enough, with legends Ghostface and Scarface trading rhymes on "Face Off," and the flow never lets up from there. "Not Your Average Joe" features the logical pairing of Fat Joe, Joe Budden, and the R&B crooner Joe, and it's anything but novelty, as the rappers trade witty, drawling rhymes. Another highlight is rapid-fire lyricist Papoose's "Alphabetical Slaughter," a psychotic run from A to Z. THE STREETSWEEPER VOL. 2 shows why DJ Kayslay's mixes are sought after; they're fierce displays of rap luminaries at the top of their game.
