| | Enslaved Eld CD Enslaved Discography of CDs
Originally released in Europe in 1997, Enslaved's now-classic third full-length album is finally available domestically for the first time. ELD is a benchmark album in the black metal community, because it is among the first of its kind to integrate progressive rock and folk elements into an otherwise stringent musical formula. And since its release, ELD has been integral to the folk metal movement now running rampant through the scene.
1997 album for the Osmose Productions label by the dark metal trio. 14 tracks, including 'Sacrifice To The Elves'.
Recorded between 1996 and 1997.
Enslaved includes: Grutle Kjellson (vocals, bass); Ivar Bjornson (guitar); Harald Helgeson (drums).

$19.19 | | Ozzy Osbourne No Rest For The Wicked CD (1989) Remastered
Eld album
$7.59 Digitally remastered by Brian Lee and Bob Ludwig (Gateway Mastering Studios, Inc.).
Although Ozzy Osbourne received enormous commercial success with 1986's THE ULTIMATE SIN, his detour into glam metal proved unsatisfying for both Osbourne and his fans. Osbourne spent most of 1987 readying his postponed live album with Randy Rhoads for release, TRIBUTE, and pondering his future musical direction. He elected to return to the kind of music that got him where he was in the first place--loud, unapologetic heavy metal. He also decided to replace guitarist Jake E. Lee with a young newcomer from New Jersey, Zakk Wylde, for 1989's NO REST FOR THE WICKED. Wylde had been a lifelong Ozzy/Sabbath fan, and resembled Randy Rhoads both in appearance and in playing style.
While the album is not on par with such past classics as BLIZZARD OF OZ and DIARY OF A MADMAN, NO REST FOR THE WICKED did represent a return to Osbourne's roots (thanks in part to longtime Queen producer Roy Thomas Baker). Osbourne tackles a range of subjects throughout, such as crooked televangelists ("Miracle Man"), serial killer Charles Manson ("Bloodbath in Paradise"), and even his own struggle with alcoholism ("Demon Alcohol"). Also included is the concert favorite and popular video, "Crazy Babies."
Things start to improve for Ozzy on No Rest for the Wicked, as Zakk Wylde replaces Jake E. Lee ...
| | Ozzy Osbourne Ultimate Sin CD (1986) Germany; Remastered
Eld CD music
$9.99 Also available in a 3-pack with DIARY OF A MADMAN and BARK AT THE MOON.
Ozzy Osbourne's 1983 release, BARK AT THE MOON, revealed that keyboards were becoming an integral ingredient in his music. On his next release, THE ULTIMATE SIN, keyboards were used even more extensively, resulting in Ozzy's most commercially accessible work. Despite the fact that many longtime fans resented the album's pop-metal leanings, THE ULTIMATE SIN became Osbourne's fastest-selling album to that point. It was also the last Ozzy Osbourne album to feature guitarist Jake E. Lee.
The most renowned song on THE ULTIMATE SIN remains the popular video/single "Shot in the Dark." Other standouts included the anti-nuclear war tracks "Thank God for the Bomb" and "Killer of Giants" (the latter was the album's working title for quite some time), as well as the title track and "Lightning Strikes," which were both popular MTV videos as well. Although Ozzy enjoyed his greatest commercial success to that point with this record, he returned to his more familiar heavy metal tendencies of yore on his next studio release, 1989's NO REST FOR THE WICKED.

| | Anvil Hard 'N' Heavy CD (1981)
Eld music CDs
$13.49 Anvil's first album, 1981's Hard 'n' Heavy, may also be their most unique, since it actually predated the band's adhesion (and key contributions) to the up-and-coming speed metal movement, beginning with their seminal sophomore outing, 1982's Metal on Metal. Instead, Hard 'n' Heavy is a transitional record compiling the best fruits of nearly a decade's worth of club shows and basement woodshedding over long cold Canadian winters by inseparable pals Steve "Lips" Kudlow (vocals/guitar) and Robb Reiner (drums), plus, more recently, bandmates Dave Allison (guitar) and Ian Dickson (bass). In fact, prior to its release through Attic Records, Hard 'n' Heavy had already been put out independently under the group's discarded moniker of Lips (where, curiously, their focus had been on S&M-inspired shock rock), so in some respects, it was the work of another band, not Anvil. This S&M connection certainly explains the exceedingly naughty sexual double-entendres gracing the album's numerous frill-free hard rockers -- namely "AC/DC" and "Oooh Baby" (both of which recall the first song's namesake), "Hot Child" (which owes much to UFO), and the self-explanatory "Bondage" (which ironically features searing guitar histrionics right out of Ted Nugent's arsenal). Others still, like Dave Allison's ménage à trois ...
| | Anvil Forged In Fire CD (1983)
Eld songs
$13.29 The second of Anvil's two influential cult classics, FORGED IN FIRE essentially refines the blueprint laid out on METAL ON METAL, showing a band more firmly in control of its muse. Lips's vocal performance is more polished and varied, yet no less unhinged; the technical riffery of the uptempo numbers is even more challenging; and Robb Reiner delivers a jaw-dropping performance, pulling out his genre-changing double-bass-drum technique on nearly every song and never letting the record's momentum flag. Even with all the blistering intensity on display here, FORGED IN FIRE isn't the all-out assault of KILL 'EM ALL; Anvil lacked the darker visions of the coming thrash movement, clearly having too much fun to conjure a tough-guy image. The heart of the album lies in the speed metal mayhem, but the band changes things up often enough to prevent monotony; the title track is a slow, head-pounding anthem, while the metal paean "Free as the Wind" and the groupie tribute "Hard Times -- Fast Ladies" strike a controlled balance between velocity and accessibility. Although METAL ON METAL is the more historically important release, Anvil aficionados often rate FORGED IN FIRE as the slightly better of the two simply by virtue of sheer musicality. This would be Anvil's last hurrah as heavy ...
