The Disky box set Golden Greats salutes a true great, the gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, who did more to revolutionize the instrument than all but a handful of prewar musicians. Over three discs and 75 tracks, the set traces the influence of Reinhardt and his Quintet of the Hot Club of France with a parade of classics: "Swing de Paris," "Djangology," "Them There Eyes," and "Dinah." By disc three, the set also includes Reinhardt's excellent guest spots on sides led by Dicky Wells and Rex Stewart. Proceed elsewhere if listener concerns include informative liner notes, full recording dates and personnel, or sparkling sound, but Golden Greats does include a landslide of classic material. ~ John Bush
