| | Warped Tour 2003 CD (2 Customer Reviews)
Even after the mammoth success of third-wave ska and pop-punk bands such as the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Green Day, few could have predicted the sheer number and variety of bands that punk rock would spawn in the '90s and early '00s. The Warped Tour was the first and best-run mainstream event to bring the best of these groups together under a single banner. In addition, the festival emphasized the extreme-sports/hardcore connection that has long been an essential facet of the West Coast scene.
Anyone who's curious about the massive lifestyle phenomenon that the Warped Tour aesthetic represents would be hard pressed to find a better place to start than the WARPED TOUR 2003 compilation. In addition to scores of the most talented up-and-comers, many of the genre's most influential heavy hitters are here, including NOFX, Face To Face, Less Than Jake, and the Dropkick Murphys. In other words, this set is so chock full of hyper-speed snare drumming, angry lyric-spewing and barre-chord thrashing, that anyone hoping to mosh through both discs would have to be more athletic than a half-pipe full of Tony Hawks.
This double CD (and sixth installment of this highly successful compilation series) is the official soundtrack for the 2003 Vans Warped Tour. Features over 50 unreleased, rare, and killer tracks from the biggest names in rock such as NOFX, The Suicide Machines, The Unseen, Dropkick Murphys, Bouncing Souls, Lagwagon, The Used, Less Than Jake, Avoid One Thing, Glassjaw, Thrice, Hazen St., and so many more. | Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Sexy I loved it. Nothing better to satisfy your music needs right before the Warped Tour... and also to prepare you for the stunning acts that are attending... especially Coheed and Cambria, Tsunami Bomb, Less Than Jake, The Used, and AFI. All BRILLIANT. Submitted by Ali (QCA, IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Satisfying for all punk rock fans This compilation will definitely please anyone who's excited about this year's Warped Tour. The majority of the tracks are kickass. Plus, 6 or 7 bucks for 52 tracks is a deal that's unbeatable. And even better, (with the exception of Simple Plan), it doesn't have any of this "pop-punk" crap that's played on TRL today.
Disc 1 starts off with a strong trio of songs - "Your Silence" (Suicide Machines), "Just A Little" (The Used), and "Glass War" (NoFX). The next 3 tracks are enough to keep your interest, and then we come to #7, in my opinion, the worst song of Disc 1, "Any Number Can Play" (No Use For A Name). I haven't heard enough to judge the band, but this song was terrible. Luckily, Tsunami Bomb redeems this with an awesome song, "20 Going On...". Face To Face, Rufio, Glassjaw (one of my favorites here), and Posion The Well also have satisfying tracks. You'll stay interested through the rest of Disc 1. Useless ID, Motion City Soundtrack, and Taking Back Sunday have the best songs of the rest of the disc.
Disc 2 also starts out strong, with the Bouncing Souls and the Dropkick Murphys. #7 seems like the suck-tastic spot on both discs, as Simple Plan, who's music I hate immensely, plays with "You Don't Mean Anything". Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, Allister, Mad Caddies, Andrew WK, Coheed And Cambria, Death By Stereo, U.S. Bombs, and Authority Zero all have great tracks as well.
Disc 1, in my opinion, was the better of the two, but both were great albums showcasing the talent of the artists performing at Warped Tour. Way to go. Submitted by a reviewer (Charlotte, NC, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
