Neo-classic rockers Zebra return from hibernation with their first studio recording in 17 years. Unlike most bands, however, the trio remained active, touring the East Coast, with mastermind Randy Jackson fostering some low-key side projects (China Rain, Sign). Here and now, the one-two triumph of openers "Arabian Nights" and "Light of My Love" shows the boys haven't missed a trick since the halcyon daze of '80s AOR. As in Zebra's signature single, "Who's Behind the Door," Jackson still ponders deep thoughts like "Why" (a veritable "Blackbird" rewrite) and "Who Am I" (a bizarre take on the Bible with animal rights sentiments similar to the earlier FM chestnut "Bears"). And only Jackson could create a cosmic, comic crack like "So I Dance." Admittedly, the crass "Free" stands as one of his weaker moments, but Jackson soars everywhere else on Zebra IV: Freed from the sterile production marring the otherwise excellent 3.V, he pumps each tune with grandiosity while retaining his invaluable sense of melody. This vital component keeps Zebra dancing in the ruins of other post-pop/prog bands that search for vitality and marketability by sacrificing the simple hooks and passion that made them famous in the first place. Zebra is a proud dinosaur, and Zebra IV is an eminently listenable record of epic insignificance. Now here's hoping Zebra V comes along a little faster. ~ Whitney Z. Gomes

| Zebra IV Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Too Long in the making This cd was too long in the making this should have come out years ago. Not there best but still its good. Must have for any zebra fans. Hopefully Zebra won't take for ever on there next cd.... Submitted by spiritman07 (MC, Louisiana) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
LOUSY sound quality I actually agree with most of the previous reviews, good & bad. Yes this album is thankfully more like Zebra's debut and most of the songs range between good & great. However, as one other reviewer accurately noted, the sound quality is WEAK, especially the drums. This band still has it and I am most pleased to see them back but they are in dire need of a capable producer.
What could have been great has been rendered mediocre by an amateuristic
recording job.

Expected more............... I expected a lot more from Zebra - I mean, how many years did they have to write decent songs since their last album? A couple of good ones but that's it - Lousy production also - Stick with their first 3 albums, this isn't worth the money - sorry Randy, you missed the boat on this one. Excellent Comeback! It is nice to hear that Zebra remained true to their signature sound and did not try to sound like nu-metal. This album is a triumph! Soaring melodies, lightning guitar, and majestic song play. Maybe this will be the album that will wake up people to listen to real rock music the way it was meant to be!! Zebra, Thanks for a great album! Submitted by a reviewer (Austin, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Excellent work. All Zebra I was curious to see if this new album kept the Zebra style of mellodic and heavy grooved music. I found that this work was all Zebra. Any fan of Zerba's previous albums will like this set. Its a little more towards the original or No tellin lies than 3.V. (less Synth) All in all... it's all Zebra!
Good Work Randy Jackson!

$7.15 It was widely assumed that when vocalist/songwriter Jon Anderson left Yes at the end of the '70s, the band was doomed. Most folks forgot that bassist/composer Chris Squire was the other founding member of the band, and he had as much to do with their sound as Anderson. It was surprising enough when the band decided to continue with a new vocalist and keyboardist. ...

$18.89 This imported disc is the way to hear the material on these two legendary records -- bright, sharp, and mean. Released in January of 1966, The Real Folk Blues was the first long-player since The Best of Muddy Waters, eight years earlier, to assemble any of Muddy's various singles, from "Gypsy Woman" in 1947 through "The Same Thing" in 1964, in one place. The transformation of Muddy's persona is astonishing, from the youthful experimenter in "Gypsy Woman" to the bold, elegant virtuoso in "You Can't Lose What You Ain't Never Had." More Real Folk Blues, which followed a year ...
