Love And Rockets Sorted! The Best Of CD

 A Big, Big Deal
I knew nothing of Love And Rockets except "So Alive" from the late 80's. But the convergence of that song with a scene in the film "The Rules Of Attraction" was such a turn-on that it made me want to see what else this band could offer, and I'm glad I did. This CD is full of mind-expanding music which is very dark, but the beats keep on coming. There is phenomenal guitar work throughout, from mellow and fluid to searing and obliterating. The lyrics stay mostly in the familiar rock territory of angst, introspection, sex and religion. They get repetitious at times, but it's no big problem because the music carries you through. Other than "So Alive", my favorites are "Kundalini Express", which sounds like The Doors if they were British; "Ball Of Confusion"; the hypnotic "Holiday On The Moon"; "Holy Fool", a seething, mysterious melting pot; "No Big Deal", a rougher, grittier clone of "So Alive"; and "It Could Be Sunshine", which is, well...sort of indescribable. If you are not familiar with Love And Rockets but like The Doors, U-2, The Cult, Guns 'N Roses and/or Marilyn Manson, then chances are you'll like this.

 Not all there
While these are all good songs and remastered at that,I would'nt call this a "Best Of" collection without tracks like "if There's a Heaven Above", "All in my Mind" or "seventh dream..." just to name a few. But there are some important ones like Kundalini Express (which starts off the collection) "Dog End..." and the big radio hit "So Alive". I would say this CD isn't bad for the price, it just is'nt a complete collection of Love & Rockets.
