World Of Musicals
$15.15 Original score composed by Tindersticks. Recorded at Angel, Eastcote Studios, London, England in July 2000. With Trouble Every Day, Stuart Staples and company enter into a creative partnership with director Claire Denis for the second time. Their first collaboration on Ms. Denis' Nenette et Boni was a striking enough success to get the soundtrack released stateside, despite the fact that there was only one vocal track on it. The rest featured Tindersticks playing a graceful and warm version of chamber jazz and serial music. As a film, Trouble Every Day is a very different animal than its predecessor. The subject matter here deals with a woman who picks up various men, has relations with ...

Interpol: Carlos D., Daniel Kessler, Paul Banks, Samuel Fogarino. Audio Mixers: Gareth Jones ; Peter Katis. Recording information: Tarquin Studios. Photographers: Andrew Zaeh; Sean McCabe. Unknown Contributor Roles: Daniel Kessler; Paul Banks; Sam Fogarino. One might go into a review like this one wondering how many words will pass before Joy Division is brought up. In this case, the answer is 16. Many are too quick to classify Interpol as mimics and lose out on discovering that little more than an allusion is being made. ...

| | Lambchop Aw Cmon CD (2004)
World Of Musicals
$12.25 Lambchop includes: Kurt Wagner (vocals, guitar); William Tyler (acoustic guitar, guitar); Tony Crow (piano); Matt Swanson (bass); Sam Baker (drums); Marc Trovillion. Recorded at The Beech House, Nashville, Tennessee in 2003. In their greatest display of ambition, Lambchop released two albums of new material simultaneously in 2004, AW CMON and NO YOU CMON. Leader Kurt Wagner's cracked croak of a singing voice is the perfect instrument to deliver the inscrutable-but-gorgeous amalgams of sadcore indie-rock, orchestral pop, and Quiet Storm-style R&B that occupy AW CMON. It should be pointed out that despite the band's Nashville home base and the occasional presence of steel guitar, ...

World Of Musicals
$13.85 Grails: Alex John Hall (electric guitar); William Slater, Zak Riles, Emil Amos. Personnel: Emil Amos (guitar, melodica, keyboards, drums); William Slater (guitar, piano, Fender Rhodes piano, harpsichord, organ, bass guitar); Zak Riles (acoustic guitar, acoustic 12-string guitar, electric guitar, banjo, oud); Alex J. Hall (electric guitar, sampler); Kate OBrien (violin); Dylan Rice Leary (harmonica); Cory Gray (trumpet, baritone horn). Additional personnel: Dylan Rice Leary, Kate OBrien, Cory Gray. Audio Mixer: Jeff Stuart Saltzman. Recording information: Audible Alchemy, Portland, OR; Yype Foundry. When the Grails released the compendium of their Black Tar Prophecies EPs in a single-CD volume -- two had previously been issued on vinyl only, the third was released only as part of the collection -- they found themselves exploring new and varied sonic territory. They moved away from the early post-rock schematics that had landed them in a seemingly inescapable sonic furrow. Black Tar Prophecies was their strongest recording to date. Hot on its heels, just months later, comes this behemoth of swirling, free-floating, mysterious psychedelia but it certainly doesn't end there. Elements of Eastern modal folk music, improvisational and African polyrythms, ambient soundscapes and layered textures of various "other" instruments such as guest Dylan Rice-Leary's harmonica, Cory Gray's baritone horn, and Kate O'Brien's violin add to the free-for-all while the Grails contribute enough of their own strangeness. Skin man and main keyboardist Emil Amos (who worked with Jandek as a drummer for a minute and became half of the Om duo) also plays melodica, guitarist Zak Riles -- who is part of M. Ward's band as well -- plays ...
