| | Audrey Auld Losing Faith CD Audrey Auld Discography of CDs
While the religious imagery of Losing Faith's title cut may seem a bit heavy for a country song, Audrey Auld's incisive lyrics cut a bit deeper than the average Nashville ballad. When the singer compares placing one's faith in a love interest with placing one's faith in Christ ("And feed me drops of water/And tell me it was wine"), it adds a new twist to relationship dependency. While this all may sound awfully serious, Auld wraps her lyrics in an energetic musical package that never forgets to entertain. There are also good-time songs like "Doin' Well," complete with old-time fiddle and the delicious line, "I say yeah, you can go to hell/I'm staying here, I'm doing well." As with her previous album, Auld, who hails from Australia, seems to know more about traditional country than post-'90s Nashville. There's still room in her musical vision for steel, dobro, and mandolin, and she even includes an old-fashioned duet with Fred Eaglesmith on "B-Grade Affair." Auld marries this love of country roots to a modern sensibility, writing smart songs that have something to say about life and relationships in 2003. Losing Faith ends pleasantly with "Harmony," a quiet duet with Kieran Kane, bringing a stimulating album to a satisfying conclusion. ~ Ronnie D. Lankford, Jr.
"Losing Faith" Winner of the MerleFest Chris Austin Song Contest 2006 Country Category.“The beauty of Audrey's work is that she understands the power of simplicity. Whether it be in a traditional country setting or on the more edgy tracks her voice stays honest and true." ~ Kieran Kane"Losing Faith" is a stunning follow-up to Audrey Auld's ARIA nominated debut release "The Fallen" - a debut which earned her international acclaim. Featuring duets with three of the biggest names in alternative country - Fred Eaglesmith, Mary Gauthier and Kieran Kane and collaborative contributions from some of Australia's and the USA's best musicians - Bill and Kasey Chambers, Michael Carpenter, Scrappy Jud Newcomb, Spenser Campbell, Camille Te Nahu, Gerry Hale, Mick Albeck, & Dave Steel. Audrey's been to the depths of a broken heart and returns with one hell of a tale to tell. This is no jagged little pill, this is life administered intravenously. "Losing Faith" re-invents hillbilly rock, setting it with moments of acoustic sweetness, of innocence lost or regained. 13 tracks: novocaine candy for your old aches, and an oxy torch for the new. Auld takes musical and emotional fragments to forge a new whole, charming the phoenix from the ashes. These are adult emotions, not Nashville sentimentality. You can't help thinking: maybe she hasn't lost faith after all. Just redefined it.Whether singing with Buddy Miller, or opening for Keb Mo, Paul Kelly, Lee Kernaghan or Kevin Welch, or taking the stage with Jim Lauderdale, Fred Eaglesmith, Kim Ritchie and Jason McCoy in the International Singer Songwriters Series, it is Audrey Auld herself that demands your attention as the stand-alone singer/songwriter. From Nashville's legendary Bluebird Cafe, to Billy Block's Western Beat, to appearing in Billboard - Auld's art is in the moving on, leaving the dobro to do the crying. With the power of alt. Rock and the pure integrity of roots music, "Losing Faith" walks hallowed ground. It takes a traditional understanding to make Auld's 21st Century meld. CMAA nominations for 2001's Female Vocal and Best New Talent recognised Auld's capacity for innovation within tradition. Her success as a solo artist follows a 2000 CMAA nomination for Best Vocal Duo, for her work with Bill Chambers as Bill & Audrey.

| | Mark David Manders Cannonball CD (2005)
Losing Faith
$12.95 Texas singer/songwriter Mark David Manders is something of a legend in his home state, where his live shows have built him a solid core of fans. Cannonball comes on the heels of the somewhat more introspective Highs and Lows, and finds him returning to his honky tonk roots with a supporting cast that includes fiddler Heather Morris, backup singer Blondie Chaplin (known for her work with the Rolling Stones), and several members of Bonnie Raitt's band. The resulting sound is surprisingly light and largely acoustic, with some hot electric guitar picking and Hammond B-3 organ thrown in for good measure. Manders' voice isn't the most powerful in the world, but his songs are impressive: the title track is presented in two versions, an "Austin Mix" and a "Los Angeles Mix," both of which are jauntily attractive in subtly different ways, ...
| | Martina Mcbride Timeless CD (2005)
Losing Faith
$8.99 While many of her contemporaries (including Trisha Yearwood and Patty Loveless) imbued their 2005 releases with a traditional bent, Martina McBride went one step further and recorded TIMELESS, an entire album of country classics, many of which date back to the 1950s and '60s. McBride's commitment to these songs is evident both on the disc's extensive liner notes (which present many facts about the tunes, such as who originally performed each one), as well as in her soulful, stirring performances. While every track here benefits from her nuanced delivery, McBride shines the brightest on a buoyant version of Ray Price's "I'll Be There" (with additional singing by Dan Tyminski and Rhonda Vincent), a swooning take on Don Gibson's "I Can't Stop Loving You," and a delicate rendition of Johnny Cash's "I Still Miss Someone" (with harmony vocals by Dolly Parton). For those seeking vintage songs channeled through one of the finest ...
