It wouldn't be difficult to make a case for Third Eye Blind as the archetypal '90s-spawned pop/rock band. On their third album (and their first of the 21st century) they continue down the path that started with their 1997 smash "Semi-Charmed Life." Throughout OUT OF THE VEIN, the band employs lessons learned from the early-'90s Seattle crowd in equal measure with the amiable accessibility of amped-up mid-'90s folk-rockers like Counting Crows and Hootie & the Blowfish. That is to say, they know how to pour on the radio-ready pop hooks while keeping the guitar riffs appropriately taut and the rhythms on the right side of mid-tempo. While there are a couple of stylistic off-ramps, such as the reggae lilt of "Wake For Young Souls" or the lazy, slow-mo vibe of "Self Righteous," the balance of this disc is one slice of bright, mainstream pop manna after another, with melodic smarts to spare.
OUT OF THE VEIN [LIMITED] contains a bonus DVD disc.

A Masterpiece Third Eye Blind have topped even themselves, this time. Out of the Vein is lyrically, instrumentally, and thematically extraordinary. Jenkins's lyrics are as profound as ever, and the group's strong chemistry is unmistakable. A thoroughly well-rounded, captivating album; a must-have for any music fan. Fun for all ages Third Eye Blind's new album definetely is a stretch for the band as they approach a different area of music. With down-to-earth lyrics and amazing guitar, this album captures a happiness and hope that is not found in the darker songs on their self-titled and "Blue" albums. Still going strong, this album promises to be just as, if not more, successful than the band's past 2 albums. Submitted by a reviewer (Alabama) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Third Eye Blind Blue CD (1999)
Out Of The Vein CD music
$8.75 Third Eye Blind has enough vision to swerve clear of the sophomore jinx. While you won't find a "Semi-Charmed" on BLUE, there is enough thoughtful, well-crafted pop to keep the band in the grace of its fans. The album opens with the short, blistering "Anything," a track that cuts out just as the song's hook pulls you in. The radio-friendly "Never Let You Go" bears an unshakable chorus. "Deep Inside of You" shows 3EB to be developing further as accomplished power balladeers. A poetic stream of consciousness takes shape in "An Ode to Maybe." "The Red Summer Sun," which begins as an atmospheric and mid-tempo piece, goes off on a strange tangent that finds vocalist Stephan Jenkins doing his best Axl Rose impression, and then returns to a trippy outro that reprises as a hidden track at the end of "Darwin."
BLUE is a largely introspective affair, especially in tracks like "Darkness," where Jenkins sings, "And the world darkens around me / strange friends surround me." That perspective is the key that makes Third Eye Blind's songs hit home emotionally. The diversity and risks the band takes on BLUE will surely help the group ...

| | Sum 41 All Killer No Filler CD (2001) Enhanced CD
Out Of The Vein songs
$12.05 This is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
This young pop-punk quartet might seem to be following in the steps of such bands as Blink 182, but they bring something of their own to the table on ALL KILLER NO FILLER. Though much of this album is occupied by bratty, post-Green Day melodic punk with the occasional, reverential nod to old-school punk rock ("Nothing on My Back"), Sum 41 seems self-aware enough to effectively spoof itself. "Maiden and Priest were the gods that we praised," ...
| | Safri Duo Episode II CD (2001)
Out Of The Vein album
$11.99 The Safri Duo sounds like the name of an Indian pop or bhangra act, but this twosome doesn't specialize in modern Indian music -- and shouldn't be confused with the Safri Boys, a bhangra group based in England. The Safri Duo consist of two Danish artists: Uffe Savery and Morten Friis, neither of whom are known for their Indo-pop credentials. However, Episode II does have a lot of world music appeal. The Safri Duo offer electronic dance music, and their instrumental jams combine electronica with a variety of world music. Savery and Friis aren't the first people to do this sort of thing, but even so, Episode II manages to be fairly fresh sounding. Some artists who have provided an electronica-world fusion have done so without any acoustic instruments whatsoever -- they play synthesizers and drum machines exclusively. This CD, however, finds the Safri Duo using the marimba and various ethnic ...
