| | Tony Bennett Who Can I Turn To CD Tony Bennett Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
This is part of Columbia Records' Tony Bennett Master series.
1964's follow-up to the seminal I WANNA BE AROUND, WHO CAN I TURN TO continues the established Bennett tradition of mixing a few choice standards with some little-known songs to delight the cogniscenti plus a show-stopping hit to tie it all together. Deliciously medium-slow versions of "Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams" and "Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea" fill the the first category easily. Then there are songs like Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh's "I Walk A Little Faster," Fran Landesman and Tommy Wolfæs "Listen, Little Girl," the debut of Bill Evans' "Waltz For Debby" with Gene Lees' lyrics, an excerpt from Mel Torme's CALIFORNIA SUITE--all these serve to mark this release as an unusual one in the Bennett canon. You know the singer agrees, since this is another in the Tony Bennett Master Series hand-picked by Bennett himself.

Andy Williams' successive LP releases of 1968 and 1969, Honey and Happy Heart, are well-paired on this two-fer CD reissue. At this point in his career, the versatile Williams, who had found his greatest success covering movie theme songs, but also ranged from light rock to venerable standards, was completely devoted to recording his versions of current hits. It was a popular notion at the time that middle-of-the-road singers like him could maintain their popularity by turning to soft rock, and Williams proved that theory by reaching the Top Ten and earning gold records with these ...

| | Andy Williams Love Theme From The Godfather/The Way We Were CD (2002)
Who Can I Turn To songs
$10.39 In its matching up of Andy Williams titles for a two-fer release, Collectables Records has opted to combine Williams' spring 1972 album Love Theme From "The Godfather" with his spring 1974 album The Way We Were, skipping over his fall 1972 album Alone Again (Naturally) and his fall 1973 album Solitaire. (Those two are together on another disc.) The theory may have been that these two both had something to do with the movies while the two in between did not, but in fact all of these albums take the same approach, more or less. That approach is to have Williams present his interpretations of songs from the pop charts of the period. As it happens, these two albums mark significant milestones for the singer, ...
| | Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head/Get Together With Andy Williams CD (2002)
Who Can I Turn To album
$10.55 This entry in Collectables' series of discount-priced two-fer reissues of Andy Williams' albums combines two successive releases originally issued in 1969 (Get Together With Andy Williams) and 1970 (Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head). The compilers have sequenced the albums out of order, probably mistakenly, since the original catalog numbers would have suggested that Raindrops came first. The compilation would have worked better if the albums were presented in release order. Get Together was a typical Andy Williams album of the time, one on which he simply listened to what was on the radio in the spring of 1969 and picked out some tunes he liked -- Stevie Wonder, Neil Diamond, a couple of songs from the musical Hair that had become pop hits. He wasn't particularly effective on such material, but he was much stronger when ...

Who Can I Turn To CD music
$31.29 Detroit's Cobo Hall on May 8, 1970, is the setting for Live in Detroit, the first complete concert performance on the Doors' own Bright Midnight label. This is the Doors the way they deserve to be remembered -- tight and overtly bluesy. However, that oversimplification unfairly discounts the multiple sonic detours made along the way. Strange but true, this is the very first ...

| | Punk Rock Is Your Friend CD (2003)
Who Can I Turn To CD music
$4.49 The budget-priced compilation has been staple in punk rock label land almost since the genre was born. It's a great medium to get unreleased or hard-to-find material from veterans into fans' hands, while at the same time promoting the greenhorns just coming up from single A ball. Vol. 4 of Kung Fu's Punk Rock Is Your Friend series adheres to this formula, offering unreleased material from the Vandals, as well as a glut of promising grooves from tenderfoots like Audio Karate (the high school lovin' anthem "Rosemead," featuring the classic line "Daydreams of you and I/Wrote your name on my folder a 1,000 times"). But like its roster of boisterous punk revivalists, who bop freely between the old-school sounds of the Buzzcocks, the late-'80s Cali scene (NOFX, Green Day), and the 21st century populist "punk" of blink-182 and the like, Kung Fu has retooled the existing format of the punk ...
