It Grows This album truly grows on you. I bought it because I thought the name was cool back when I didn't know too much about metal. I listened to it once, and never again. then one day I decided to put it back in my stereo, and I really started to enjoy it. once you get over the insanely bad production, there are some really cool and powerful riffs in there. This is quickly becoming my favorite album from the days of the "pure" black metal. Go out and get it, and don't be too quick to judge. You may find yourself loving it in the near future. Not as good as "A Blaze in the Northern Sky" Their follow up to "A Blaze..." was a more Black Metal effort than their last. The songs are not as interesting as "A Blaze...", and they made the production even worse than "A Blaze...". So some reason, they almost completely drowned out the drums, so you can just barley hear them. In parts of the album you can't even hear the snare drum; all you hear is the bass drum and the cymbles! If the mix was better than it would of gotten 4 stars. Buy "A Blaze in the Northern Sky" before you buy this one. Submitted by returnofbathory (Pinckney, MI, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
true fans will say this is not underground enough anymore. the rules on how to be "cool" in the metal underground. NEVER sign with a major metal label. let it be known in mags and the press that you live the "TRUE" black metal lifestyle even if you dont. have absolutely terrible production on your albums. say bad things about other bands in interviews especially american death metal bands and swedish black metal bands. say you worship euronymous or varg-but not both- and quorthon. say mayhem should have died along with euronymous. say emperor went mainstream with anthems to the welkin at dusk. say that immortals only good album was true holocaust. worship anything that has the word panzer in it. terrorize christians or at least say you do. say youre from norway even if youre not. say you have served jail time for killing someone who was wearing a cannibal corpse shirt. NEVER TOUR!!! ONLY DO SHOWS SPARINGLY IN SCANDINAVIA!! only keep original members. if you lose one change the band name...........this is a good album and i like darkthrone but you so called "true" black metal fans are a joke. you dont care one thing about music its all about the image youre potraying. sad very sad. by the way the only "true" black metal band ever to exist is venom. they invented the term everyone else followed. and finally anyone who thinks black metal is more extreme than death metal is an idiot! listen to deeds of flesh, origin, cryptopsy, mortician, hate eternal, infamy, hell i can name 100 more that no "true" black metal band can match intensity wise. reign in blood by slayer is more intense and extreme then any "true" black metal album!! so quit thinking youre ultra super cool because you only listen to bands on obscure labels that no ones ever heard of. its really laughable.

How do they get that guitar sound?!?!?! The term "buzzsaw" has been used to explain guitar tone for so long that it's lost any meaning. On this album though, a buzzsaw on crack is fairly accurate because Darkthrone created a monster on this one. They were not kind to their guitars or amps, coming up with a sound so powerful I can't even explain it. The drums are almost drowned in the mix, but it doesn't matter...the riffs dominate this disc with a vengence. We are lucky to have Darkthrone. Listen to them. | | Darkthrone Hate Them CD (2003)
Under A Funeral Moon.
$11.39 The "hope I die before I get old" philosophy is one which plagues every rock band lucky enough to have a lengthy career; so obviously, coming to grips with this dilemma becomes tougher the more extreme a band's sound. Therefore, in the black metal field -- commonly agreed to be the most extreme style of music on the planet -- the realization that it's often not better to burn out after all, but rather fade away a little further on down the line, can be an especially traumatic experience for both musicians and fans. Norway's Darkthrone clearly finds itself waist-deep in this quandary on its tenth album, 2003's Hate Them. Now far removed from the gang of impressionable teenagers who became as well-known for their questionable affiliation to Norway's notorious black metal "Inner Circle" (and the criminal element therein) as for their astoundingly primitive but equally influential early efforts, Darkthrone's remaining founding duo ...

Under A Funeral Moon.
$9.89 2003 reissue of the Scandinavian dark metal act's 1992 album features six tracks plus an exclusive multimedia enhanced interview with the band (Chapter 2), packaged in a digipak. Peaceville.
Heavy metal has always championed the darker things in life, but whatever they might say in their interviews, most bands are really just mugging for the press, fronting a fantasy image for the benefit of their impressionable young fans. But all bets are off when it comes to the infamous Norwegian black metal scene, where in the early '90s popular bands like Mayhem, Emperor, and Burzum saw key members charged with real-life acts of crime ranging from church ...

Under A Funeral Moon.
$10.09 "Darkthrone is for all the evil in man," proclaims the back cover of Transilvanian Hunger, the Norwegian group's fourth release -- but more controversial is the proclamation that contained within was "Norsk Arisk Black Metal," loosely translated, "Norwegian Aryan Black Metal." One would have to be fluent in Norwegian to understand whether or not Transilvanian Hunger boasts a racist agenda, since all lyrics, save for the vampire-themed title track, are "sung" in said dialect, but such a proclamation reeks of a publicity ...
