In the late '80s, with bands like Guns N' Roses finding stardom with stripped-down, loud rock & roll, AC/DC couldn't have picked a better time to release BLOW UP YOUR VIDEO. The album found an extremely receptive U.S. audience, and was the band's first record to reach the top 10 since FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK WE SALUTE YOU. And while it wasn't as consistent as some of the band's classic releases, BLOW UP YOUR VIDEO was easily one of the best hard rock/heavy metal releases of that time.
"That's the Way I Wanna Rock N Roll" was an instant AC/DC classic, and the raging "Heatseeker" became an eventual concert staple. Other tracks like "Go Zone," "Kissin' Dynamite," and "Some Sin for Nuthin'" were standouts as well. BLOW UP YOUR VIDEO proved to be drummer Simon Wright's final album with the band (he would leave after the ensuing tour to join Dio). BLOW UP YOUR VIDEO set the stage perfectly for AC/DC's next album, the blockbuster THE RAZOR'S EDGE.

| Blow Up Your Video Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Blows Up My Video **** 1/2 stars is actually what I give it. Wow this is a very strange album the group has raised questions. Blow Up Your Video is stranger than For Those About To Rock. The album and sound I say is a mix of blues, hard rock, and heavy metal, including the return of what hair metal groups lacked, Rock N Roll! Now the album opens up with "Heatseeker" which is has a great opening intro and then blows up with a wicked riff. Then we get a very nice follow up with the song, "That's The Way I Wanna Rock N Roll" which has a very narwly music video to it, along with "Heatseeker". "Meanstreak" and "Go Zone" are pretty wicked with another wicked plays from Angus Young. Then we have some heavy songs like "Kissin' Dynamite", "Two's Up", and "Ruff Stuff". While "Some Sin For Nuthin'", "Nick of Time", and "This Means War" are very fast pace which rises up the tempo. Now, Blow Up Your Video is great, but what I found weird about it is the sound because the sound has a similarities with Kiss songs. Not that I'm trying to offend anyone. Because everytime I hear one of the songs, it reminds me of Kiss. Kiss is a good band too. Now Blow Up Your Video I say, is one of AC/DC's riskiest albums, because during that time, hair metal ruled the rock. Just like Ballbreaker (which was release when 2nd punk rock and grunge), the group refused to change and kept their style of blues, hard rock, and rock n roll. Still AC/DC kick@zz and I've heard they're working on a new album. Which would be great, because today, we need rock n roll!!! And fast! My favorite songs in here are "Go Zone" "Heatseeker" "That's The Way I Wanna Rock N Roll" "Ruff Stuff" "Kissin' Dynamite" and "This Means War". Yes, I do love the other songs because this is a glorious rock n roll album!!!!! ROCK ON!!!! \!!/ Submitted by sleez_boy (Bakersfield, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Last Great Album This is AC/DC's last album in which the tracks are heavy and solid throughout. There is not one bad song on this record. Submitted by gmirsalis (Youngstown OH) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Underrated Get the feeling that if this was called Heatseeker instead of Blow Up Your Video, it would have been a bigger commercial success. The actual title was a bit cheesy at the time, and even more so now. It's a solid album though. A bit more bluesy in spots, but the songs really do grow on you with repeated listens.
Heatseeker and That's The Way I Wanna Rock n Roll really start it off in great rockin' AC/DC fashion. Meansreak and Go Zone break in more blues and are a bit slower tempo but have choruses that stick with you. Kissin Dynamite is a solid mid-tempo rocker, more like classic AC/DC. Nick of Time ups the tempo again, but it's only an average tune, not one of my favorites. The mid-tempo blues and jams return for Some Sin, Ruff Stuff (great melody) and Two's Up, kind of a classic lurid AC/DC mini-trilogy. More memorable choruses abound throughout. Then the album closes with an in your face rocker, This Means War. Good Stuff. It's not the best AC/DC album, but I actually like it more than For Those About to Rock and Ballbreaker. AC/DC had been nearly written off as a shadow of its former pulverizing self at the start of the '90s. It seemed, sadly, that the band's best hard rock years were behind them and a younger, more able-bodied generation of rockers would be needed to carry the torch. Out of nowhere, then, came THE RAZOR'S EDGE, an album of startling potency. Not only was the firepower back in terms of gripping riffs, but the band was able to summon the focus to lay out its most memorable collection of songs in years.
With "Thunderstruck" alone, the band shakes off complacency with one mighty swipe. It's an instant AC/DC classic, scouring the familiar terrain of piercing guitar lines, and a locked in rhythm section. The band also scored a direct hit with "Moneytalks," a pop-hook-with-a-wallop single that ...

If possible, AC/DC actually made their sound denser on its sophomore effort, LET THERE BE ROCK. A darker album than its predecessor, HIGH VOLTAGE, this album leans further towards AC/DC's twisted extension in the blues tradition. Which is not to say that the band relented from its three-chord power riffing for one millisecond. The presence of Angus Young's mighty Gibson SG looms over the album like a sheet of lead on a windless day. What has changed is the inclusion of longer songs like "Go Down," "Dog Eat Dog," and the floor rattling "Let There be Rock," all of which feature ripping interplay between Bon Scott's perverse howl and Young's straight for the throat guitar lines.
Where others hint at hormone-driven themes of lust and adolescent rebellion, AC/DC revel in them with abandon. Thus "Bad Boy Boogie" and "Problem Child" are songs your parents are sure to hate with heartfelt passion. The album's highlights are ...

Although AC/DC achieved its greatest commercial success after the death of original vocalist Bon Scott (1980's BACK IN BLACK and 1981's FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK featured replacement Brian Johnson), fans showed that they had not forgotten Scott when DIRTY DEEDS was released in the early '80s for American ...

AC/DC remained popular amongst metalheads in the mid '80s, but the commercial disappointment of albums like 1983's FLICK OF THE SWITCH showed that the pop audience who discovered the band with 1980's mammoth seller BACK IN BLACK was losing interest. Instead of radically altering its sound like many other hard rock bands of the era did after weak-selling albums, AC/DC admirably stuck to its guns and continued in a bluesy hard rock direction with 1985's FLY ON THE WALL. While the album didn't exactly catapult the band back to the top of the charts, it did sell more copies than its predecessor. The album also marked the band's first studio recording with new drummer Simon Wright.
FLY ON THE WALL's highlights include "Sink the Pink" and "Shake Your ...

Blow Up Your Video

Building upon the Long Winters' first album, The Worst You Can Do Is Harm, frontman John Roderick compiled enough hooks to create the solid, delectably pop sophomore effort When I Pretend to Fall. The Long Winters get happy on this one, and Roderick's vibrant, newfound confidence as a showman and songwriter allows the Long Winters' sound to finally gel. Chris Walla, Sean Nelson, Eric Corson, and Michael Schilling return for some sonic goodness, while ex-Posies guitarist/vocalist Ken Stringfellow joins the Long Winters to polish things up a bit. Extra help from R.E.M.'s Peter Buck and Pedro the Lion's Blake Wescott is a bonus in adding to Roderick's nearly accessible candied rock sound. Album opener "Blue Diamonds" kicks things off with a swanky brass section. Roderick's ...
