Thing review Product Description
Thing movie was released Aug 05, 2003 by the Warner Home Video studio. Members of an Antarctic research team are killed off by a frozen alien they uncover.
One of the great science fiction classics made in the 50s -- the period when the genre thrived. A group of US scientists and servicemen, stationed on the North Pole, encounter an odd magnetic phenomenon that confuses all of their instruments. When the crew goes out to investigate, they find a block of ice containing an odd life form. But this is no archeological discovery -- because when the block melts, an invincible, grotesque creature, smarter and more powerful than humans, rises and goes on a rampage, almost destroying the polar station. Now the occupants of the station have to stop The Thing before it kills them... and embarks on its plan to destroy the planet.
A wonderfully crisp script and quick-paced direction distinguishes this film about an alien creature discovered near an Arctic outpost. Members of a scientific research team cart the frozen pilot back to camp where it thaws out--much to their regret. ...See Full Description

Good Old Fashioned Horror Fare Remembered cowering behind the sofa when this was on as a Kid, and just had to have it. It's a great Old Sci-Fi film, full of the cliches that populated the Movies of that time. The Monsters were simple and direct, the Guys had square Jaws and were decent blokes, and there was always some Girl who happened to be in the most unusual place and was threatened by the Monster. The Mad professor is also evident in this flick. The story stands up even after all these years, and is worth a look to see the basis on which Most Modern Sci-Fi films were built. It really is a great film, and is a thoroughly diverting 90 Minutes of shock, Horror & Triumph. By roger.myers (Bracknell, Berks. UK)
It's the real Thing We enjoyed watching this classic. The remake just wasn't the same. Classic Horror.....it doesn't get any better than that. By akinnaman (Louisville, KY)
THE ORIGINAL ALIEN MOVIE, STILL THE BEST! Although made in 1951 without special effects and computer wizardry, the original Thing has stood the test of time and remains the first and best Alien movie. The taut, suspenseful script with Howard Hawk's trademark rapid paced, overlapping dialogue keeps the viewer on the edge of his seat, never knowing where the Thing will strike again! This is the only horror movie from my youth in the 1950s which truly scared me and I've seen it over 50 times!!! I was ecstatic when I noticed this classic was now available on DVD and I purchased it as soon as I could!! The actors are largely unknown, the budget was small and computer generated special effects didn't exist then but if you like science fiction and scary movies, purchase the original Thing and tighten your seat belts!! As the movie ends so should you, Look to the skies, keep looking to the skies!!! By a reviewer (Old Lyme, CT)
My Favorite Science Fiction Movie I've watched this movie at least 50 times during my 64 years, from a school kid in the 50s until today. It's my favorite because, in many scenes, all the actors are talking at once like real life. It's a great story, good script, love the DC-3 flown by Kenneth Toby. Groucho Marx's announcer George Fennamin has a role in the movie as a scientist explaining where the flying craft hit the ice. Enjoy it as I have many times! By waltereflanagan (Lizella, GA, USA)
