Clint Eastwood plays a veteran cop who gets stuck with a rookie cop (Charlie Sheen) to chase down a German criminal (Raul Julia.) Nick Pulovski is a tough, veteran cop with a history of training new partners who end up dead -- usually, thanks to his recklessness. His most recent assignment is a cocky rookie with emotional problems, and a lot of leftover hostility from his childhood. The two team up to crack a car-stealing ring; but when Pulovski gets kidnapped by a pair of sadistic thieves, it's up to the brash rookie to save him. And this young cop won't let useless technicalities like "The Law" stand in his way. A case-hardened cop determined to catch the murderer who killed his partner and a by-the-book rookie pampered by his rich father are hot on the trail of a ruthless auto theft ring. The leader of the ring just happens to be the murderer. Color by Technicolor. $9.85 This sequel to EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE finds fist fighting legend Philo Beddoe (Clint Eastwood) attempting to live out a quiet backwoods retirement with his mother (Ruth Gordon), his girlfriend (Sandra Locke) and his mischievous orangutan, Clyde. Some mobsters who routinely pit black widow scorpions against each other for kicks, however, want Philo to go into battle with a friend (William Smith) who just might be the only man Philo can't take down.
This sequel goes even farther than the original in its uncommon combination of children's entertainment and bare knuckle action. Also included are biker gangs, raunchy humor and bold sexuality featuring both the elderly and orangutans. Stunt director Buddy Van Horne masterfully stages the final bout between Eastwood and Wilson, one of the most ...

$9.85 This unusual combination of bare knuckle fighting and lighthearted romp was also a comedic change of pace for its rugged star Clint Eastwood. Eastwood plays trucker Philo Beddoe, a revered brawler who lives in a shack with his best pal's feisty, elderly mother (Ruth Gordon) and an orangutan, Clyde, who sips beer and thumbs his nose at authority. Philo is preparing for a bout against the wishes of his mother and his new love interest (Sandra Locke). If clashing with the women in his life weren't enough, he has to deal with his cocky opponent, gamblers, and a chopper gang who constantly harrass him. Fortunately, he does have Clyde backing him up as well as his trusty companion Orville Boggs (regular Eastwood collaborator Geoffrey Lewis).
This bizarre hick comedy was a surprise hit and spawned a sequel featuring many in the original cast. The country soundtrack combines ...

$16.25 Richard Burton stars as Major John Smith, a British agent during WWII who is in charge a group of six Allied soldiers given the task of rescuing an American general--who is reportedly in possession of the plans for D-Day--from a seemingly impregnable German fortress located high in the Bavarian Alps. Assisting Smith is the sole American in the operative, Lieutenant Morris Schaffer (Clint Eastwood), a fierce soldier skilled with an array of deadly weapons. As the men penetrate the fortress, facing an endless supply of German soldiers, it becomes apparent that some members of the small Allied team may not be who them seem to be. Full of thrilling action set pieces, the screenplay was written by Alistair MacLean, adapted from his own best selling novel.

Rookie film
$15.65 When John Huston left for Africa to shoot THE AFRICAN QUEEN, he asked his friend, writer Peter Viertel, to come along with him, ostensibly to help him polish James Agee's script. Eventually, Viertel wrote a fictionalized account of his experience with Huston in Africa, WHITE HUNTER, BLACK HEART. Almost 30 years later, Clint Eastwood made a film of that novel. Eastwood plays director John Wilson, a man clearly modeled after Huston. Wilson is a gregarious and tremendously engaging character, very different from the strong, silent image of Eastwood his fans have grown to know. At the same time, like many of Clint's characters, Wilson is a man who lives by his own rules. He goes to Africa, far more interested in shooting an elephant on safari than in shooting his movie. His real obsession seems to be his image of himself as a man of action. Wilson is a rascal, somewhat admirable in his ideals, but he's also selfish, stubborn, and irresponsible. Eventually, his pursuit leads to tragedy in Eastwood's most scathing and powerful critique of the macho image he himself has built a career on. It's ...
| | Walkabout DVD (1971) Widescreen
Rookie review
$23.39 Nicolas Roeg's solo directorial debut is a haunting, unconventional narrative film that presents a bleak vision of civilized life as arid and unrewarding. Abandoned in the Australian outback, two young white children (Jenny Agutter and Roeg's son Lucien) stumble upon an adolescent Aborigine (David Gulpilil), who is performing a "walkabout." In this ritualistic six-month journey, the boy must learn to survive by himself in the imposing desert. Communication is a problem, although more for the girl than for her little brother, who still has a child's ability to communicate simply and directly. The two teenagers fail to connect for a variety of reasons, mostly due to the girl's lack of interest in a culture that is unfamiliar and different from her own. Ultimately, the differences become too much to bear, resulting in a tragic conclusion that adds an even more somber denouement to Roeg's already grim vision. Based on ...

$20.09 In 1943, as World War II's Battle of Berlin rages, with air raids forcing families into their cellars for shelter and bombs exploding all over the city, Felice Schragenheim (Juliane Köhler) and Lilly Wust (Maria Schrader), fall in love. Director Max Färberböck's AIMEE & JAGUAR tells the true story of this passionate, forbidden love affair, adapted from the 1998 book of the same title by Erica Fischer.
Felice, a dark and beautiful Jewish woman who is constantly in danger of being apprehended by the Gestapo, works for a Nazi newspaper under a false name, feeding what she learns to underground resistance leaders. Lilly, a flowery blond housewife living in bourgeoise comfort, raises 4 little boys, passing the time until her Nazi husband, Gunther, returns from the war. When the two meet, and Felice makes advances, Lilly responds, falling into total submission under Felice's spell. They nickname each other Aimee (Lilly) and Jaguar (Felice), spending every night dancing to popular 40s jazz music with Felice's eccentric lesbian friends, and every day raising the four boys who treat Felice like a second mother. It is not ...

$28.49 Less sketch-oriented than the first series, and with a notably bigger budget, the LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN return for this second helping of adventures from Royston Vasey. Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, and Reece Shearsmith once again don myriad guises to portray the various residents of the town, including bloodthirsty local shop owners Tubbs and Edward; pen-obsessed unemployment officer Pauline; toad collectors Harvey and Val Denton; and butcher Hillary Briss, who may be responsible for the nosebleed epidemic ravaging the residents of Vasey. The action unfolds in a highly cinematic fashion, drawing on a mixture of dark humor and old horror film ...
