Unhallowed, the debut full-length from Detroit, MI, quintet the Black Dahlia Murder is a well-executed slice of melodic death/black metal in the tradition of Swedish masters Dissection and At the Gates. They've clearly studied those bands, as is reflected in the racing, dual-harmonized guitar riffs that form the foundation of this album. The vocals are a little different, though, consisting of a high-pitched shriek that's complemented by a lower, more standard death metal growl. Also of note is the drumming, which is pretty swift, even by this genre's standards. This band has a lot of youthful energy and chops and has the potential to do something great. ~ William York
While not exactly original, Unhallowed, the debut full-length from Detroit, MI, quintet the Black Dahlia Murder is a well-executed slice of melodic death/black metal in the tradition of Swedish masters Dissection and At the Gates. They've clearly studied those bands, as is reflected in the racing, dual-harmonized guitar riffs that form the foundation of this album, but then again, the riffs are at times a little too reminiscent of what many folks will have already heard on albums such as Storm of the Light's Bane and Slaughter of the Soul. The vocals are a little different, though, consisting of a high-pitched shriek that's complemented by a lower, more standard death metal growl. Also of note is the drumming, which is pretty swift, even by this genre's standards. This band has a lot of youthful energy and chops and has the potential to do something great if they can come up with something less imitative and more their own. ~ William York

Black Dahlia Murder Unhallowed Songs Unhallowed Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Lots of hype It is poor artwork and poorly put together screaming Submitted by mdavidsonii (sd ca) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
hard core is a stupid name its so pleasing to hear the sheer violence in this guys screaming voice screaming against all that is not right in this retarded evil world. A guilty pleasure in a way? because it is a little too agressive and spazzed out at times. Youll feel like a jerk at times and it washes away all of your creativity because of the wreckless anger. Good or evil? what is it? Its whatever you want because its screaming. thats all it is wahtever Submitted by George (san diego) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
must hear Very fast, very hardcore. Amazing guitar solos. All screaming with no pansy Emo singing mixed in. Rivals alot of European death metal and scores a point for Americans. Their latest CD Miasma is also very good and they are great live. Submitted by faygoontap (Chicago, IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
This is the band I've been waiting for To my ears, TBDM is the best metal band to come out since Carcass. The album is just full of raging and changing riffs that are brutal but extremely intelligent. Every riff just interlocks with one another which is just so incredibly hard to perfect. Each song is accented with incredibly pretty guitar harmonies which remind me a lot of the guitar work on Carcass' "Heartwork." That band's influence really shows. Trevor's "duelling" vocal delivery really adds a ton of flavor to an already overwhelmingly pleasing mix. This band just clicks on every level for me, its perfection. I can't say enough, 5 stars, buy it now, etc. etc. Submitted by tajiri13 (Las Vegas, NV USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
