Bleh Delerium have taken a turn for the worst. They have forsaken their sublime sound for pop garbage. This is also reflected on their "best of" CD. Submitted by nial (California) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Very Sensual This is my first Delerium album and I love it. Most music will come and go, but this kind of music I'll listen to for years to come. The music is very calm, relaxing, sensual and very good beat. Submitted by QT711 (San Diego, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
not as dark This CD appears to be a turning point, sans "jump the shark" for Delirium. I was expecting a rather hypnotic dark experience. Quite the opposite. I must say I do like one song very much. "After All" is definitely a prize. The additional CD with Silence video is a bonus too. Submitted by carey c (Kansas City, MO) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Some New Sounds - But An Average CD What started as an Enigma-wannabe has truly matured. What makes Delerium album's truly enjoyable is the mix of artists involved. Poem is, IMHO, their best work to date, and really took the artists new directions. Chimera is a good continuation of that work, but it fails to have any songs that are 'excellent', whereas Poem had a a few of them. Still, a few of the songs on Chimera are at least 'good', which means that if you enjoy the previous Delerium albums, you should give this one a listen. One intersting new twist is a very Portishead type sound in their work, which I quite enjoyed. However I didn't think they carried the new 'sound' of this album far enough. Chimera
$11.55 Enigma: Ruth-Ann, Andru Donalds, Michael Cretu, Sandra Cretu. Recorded at A.R.T. Studios, Ibiza, Spain. Personnel: Sandra Cretu, Matthew Herren, Michael Crétu, Andru Donalds (vocals). Recording information: A.R.T. Studios, Ibiza, Spain. Arrangers: Jens Gad; Michael Crétu. Michael Crétu's formula of weaving old and new world sounds through new age atmospherics and dance rhythms has resulted in four Enigma discs that have straddled the line between brilliance and self-indulgence. The plodding bombast of 2000's The Screen Behind the Mirror seemed to signal that Enigma had stretched itself to a point where an explosion of pompous musical goop was imminent. So what's to be done when the bubble's about to burst? Simply ease up, let out some of the stuffy air, and allow for some space to breathe -- and that is what Crétu has done with Voyageur. Utilizing a lighter production style, his compositions benefit from the lack of themes, chants, and assorted ethereal voices that began to plague his discs while still retaining the essence of Enigma. Once ...

Chimera
$13.25 Delerium: Rhys Fulber (programming, sampler); Bill Leeb (sequencer). Additional personnel: Greg Froese, Isabel Bayrakdarian, Jael, Kirsty Hawkshaw, Kristy Thirsk, Mediæval Bæbes, Zoe Johnston , Katharine Blake, Kiran Ahluwalia (vocals); Roy Salmon (guitar, piano, keyboards); Leah Randi (bass guitar); Andy Holt, Peter Davies (programming). As fans are well aware, Delerium began their career recording strictly instrumental music in a highly atmospheric, soundscape vein. That musical penchant hasn't changed, but over the years the duo has utilized ever more vocalists to further enhance its sound, culminating in Nuages du Monde. This set boasts seven different female vocalists across its 11 tracks, and a mere two instrumentals. Opera star Isabel Baryakdarian powerfully opens the album with the evocative "Angelicus," her soaring vocals and the number's textured atmospheres a revelation that echoes the ...

According to ancient Indian scriptures and saints, the traditional practice of chanting God's name -- be it Krishna, Rama, Ganesh, or another of the numerous deities -- is a tried and true path leading to union with the divine. Kirtan is one of the main forms of this practice, wherein a leader sings out the call and a group echoes with a response. Breath of the Heart is a live recording of Krishna Das in such a setting. Of course, being a westerner, he rounds out the sound with a little more than the customary harmonium and drum of the "motherland," adding Rob McDonald's ...
