Water Music's Ultimate Lounge is fairly eclectic, offering two discs of downtempo, lounge, and acid jazz that have a little more character than the label's usual fare. Disc one features Llorca & Nicole Graham's "Indigo Blues," a surprisingly kinetic, acoustic-based track; Montefiori Cocktail's "On a Clear Day," which, with its crooning vocals and bossa nova rhythms, is the closest the collection comes to offering genuine lounge music; and Tosca's slinky "Mango di Bango." The Dining Rooms' "Speak into the Microphone" and Sian's "What's Your Name" are more typical of the Water Music sound, but still have enough jazz and lounge elements to fit in with the more distinctive tracks. Disc two continues the collection's bossa nova kick with A Banda Cerrone's "Rimini Samba" before seguing into "Cholita" by Oversoul 7, a group that features former members of Supreme Beings of Leisure and continues that band's hazy brand of jazzy electronica. Mr. Scruff's "Champion Nibble" is one of the best -- and liveliest -- tracks on the collection, mixing funky guitars and brass with witty organ rolls. Other highlights include Alacran's tango-inflected "Refleco de Luna," Xploding Plastix's "Happy Jizz Girls," and Monlope's "Midnight Cowboy," which sounds like Ennio Morricone dabbling in trip-hop. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is a three-disc collection that spans composer Howard Shore's score for the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Oscar-winning Fellowship of the Ring skillfully births many of the films' main themes. From the familiar opening violin motif of "The Prophecy" to the haunting elven hymn "Lothlorien," Shore lays out the blueprints for this immense work with precision and wonder, allowing the melodies to brew over time. The inclusion of the Enya-penned "May It Be" caused some controversy among purists who believed that the score would suffer if it deviated from the elvish language, yet it remains a pleasant and complimentary addition. The tone of the second film is much darker in scope, so it only seems fitting that Shore paint with a larger brush. With the whimsical "Concerning Hobbits" theme reduced to short variations, the choral arrangements for The Two Towers battle sequences rule the trilogy's middle child. "Isengard Unleashed" deftly utilizes the solo soprano in the march of the Ents to up the dramatic ante for the battle of "Helm's Deep," and the introduction of "Gollum's Song" by Emiliana Torrini gives a sympathetic feel to the story's most conflicted character. Fever is simply the McCoys' 1965 debut album, Hang on Sloopy, with a new title. The original was less a unified collection than it was a classic single, the title tune "Hang on Sloopy," which featured the singing and guitar playing of a young Rick Derringer, surrounded by a lot of likeminded filler, although a couple of the tracks, most notably the relatively ambitious "Don't Worry Mother" and the striking "Sorrow," which sported a lovely melody, rose well above the generic feel of the rest of the album.
