| The great die young.... Portrait of a Legend 1951-1964 music CDs A wonderful collection of songs from one of the true masters who was sadly taken long before his time. From his early gospel days (Touch the hem of his garment) to the swinging "Twisting the night away", his voice is one of the greatest ever to be recorded. We are lucky that we have this beautiful music captured forever to listen to time and time again. "Bring it to me" is one of my favourite songs ever and I am moved every time I hear it, Sams voice was amazing. Who knows what he would have gave us if he hadn't been taken from us in 1964. | No longer available as a Hybrid SACD!! Just a warning to other buyers. As of March 2006 ABKCO is no longer releasing Hybrid SACDs. This disc, as well as their entire Rolling Stones remasters, are now just regular CDs. Unfortunately the packaging still shows the "DSD" logo and the catalog numbers have not changed. If you want the hybrid SACD version, you'll have to find a store that has old stock before the March 2006 change. I only discovered this when I ordered a copy of this disc and found that it was a regular CD. You can tell the difference because a hybrid SACD is light gold (like a DVD) and the inner ring of the disc has two circular UPC-like imprints. A regular CD is silver and will only have a single UPC-like ring. By Keith (Santa Monica, CA) |
| oh my god... Sam Cooke is THE artist of the century! By ahmad (riffa, bahrain) |
| A Real Good Package I wasn't sure about this when I saw it advertised but am glad to have made the purchase. Sam Cooke wasn't one of my alltime favorites, but he did have a good sound and style and it's well transferred to this disc of over 80 minutes. Good for ABKO. Really good value and superb presentation. Nice to hear "cupid" again especially. Her name was Rae when that was around in my teenage years and she hit it off with someone else so cupid's arrow missed my scene. By a reviewer (Kilmarnock, Ayrshire) |
