Kerrville Tapes album
$11.95 BLUE PONY, Miller's debut record on Hightone (her previous effort was on a small, Christian-oriented label) places her as a kind of quirky alternative-Americana artist. Think of a rootsy Victoria Williams, whose voice Miller often brings to mind. As if to purposely move past the "country" label, BLUE PONY starts off strong with a rocker, "A Kiss On the Lips," with its understated energy and Hammond B-3 backing. The next song "Take Me Back," is a high lonesome duet with Julie's husband and co-producer, Hightone recording artist Buddy Miller. It recalls the kind of Appalachian folk songs that lie at the roots of commercial ...

Ray Benson, the driving force behind the 1993 all-star CD A TRIBUTE TO BOB WILLS, continues his role as keeper of the Western Swing flame with RIDE WITH BOB. An all-star lineup gathers to salute music that's jazzy, bluesy, toe-tapping and just plain fun. AATW serves as the "house band," as each guest artist steps up to the mike to demonstrate how Wills' music lends itself to a variety of arrangements and any number of wildly disparate vocal styles.
The track featuring Willie Nelson and Manhattan Transfer is just as good a fit as the one featuring the Squirrel Nut Zippers, for example. Other highlights include Tim McGraw's bluesy take on "Milk Cow Blues," and longtime Wills booster Merle Haggard's terrific version of "St. Louis Blues." Dwight Yoakam was born to sing "New San Antonio Rose," while Reba McEntire, tearing into "Right or Wrong," sounds like she hasn't had so much fun in years. While these marquee names are the obvious draw on RIDE WITH BOB--other artists include the Dixie Chicks, Clint Black and Shawn Colvin--the quality of the music itself can't be denied. As Clint Black sings near the end of the CD, "Bob Wills ...

Kerrville Tapes songs
$11.39 Chainsaw Weasel is more of an idea than a "Who". Scott Adams, of Dilbert fame, once had poor lonely Dilbert trying out the dating game. Dilbert, being Dilbert, programed a computer to find ways to make himself more appealing to the opposite sex. Well, the computer found that Dilbert needed a sense of humor and provided him with some "can't miss' joke material. The computer determined that the four funniest words in the human language are "Prune Eating Chainsaw Weasel" (or any reference to Giligan's Island...little buddy). Well the rest is history...Chainsaw Weasel is comprised of Anthony Vilgiate (that's me) a sampler, a four-track and a room full of instruments. (See the Gear page at chainsaw-weasel.com for a full list)A friend of mine, Phil ...
