Acoustic Guitar Moods is a budget-priced collection of instrumental ballads centered around the gentle plucks of the titular instrument. Unfortunately, the collection routinely drowns out the guitar with layer upon layer of sappy, synthesized piano and drums. The album opens with "Blue Eyes" and "Unforgettable," both of which are dominated by piano and saxophone. Fortunately, tasteful renditions of "The Rose" and "The Wind Beneath My Wings" live up to the collection's title. "The Rose" is particularly successful, with its baritone acoustic guitar accompanied by spare piano. But Acoustic Guitar Moods offers little more, as its reliance on synthesizers only becomes more jarring, robbing the listener of any relaxation that might have been derived from the recording. ~ Johnny Loftus

Acoustic Guitar Moods album
$14.44 With The Fall, Norah Jones completes the transition away from her smooth cabaret beginnings and toward a mellowly arty, modern singer/songwriter. Jones began this shift on 2007's Not Too Late, an album that gently rejected her tendencies for lulling, tasteful crooning, but The Fall is a stronger, more cohesive work, maintaining an elegantly dreamy state that's faithful to the crooner of Come Away with Me while feeling decidedly less classicist. Some of this could be attributed to Jones' choice of producer, Jacquire King, best-known for his work with Modest Mouse and Kings of Leon, but King hardly pushes Norah in a rock direction; The Fall does bear some mild echoes of Fiona Apple or Aimee Mann in ballad mode, but its arrangements never call attention to themselves, the way that some Jon O'Brien productions do. Instead, the focus is always on Jones' voice and songs, which are once again all originals, sometimes composed in conjunction with collaborators including her longtime colleagues Jesse Harris, Ryan Adams, and Will Sheff of Okkervil River. In addition to King's ...
| | John Mayer Battle Studies CD (2009)
Acoustic Guitar Moods CD music
$11.18 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." Mayer remains somewhat of a disciple of Slowhand, but he shows an unusual interest in the big AOR stylings of Journeyman, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan's In Step, creating a coolly clean blend of synths and Strats, one that's as much about texture as it is about song.something perfectly appropriate for a make-out album like this. Sometimes, Mayer dips too heavily toward the texture, but he can't resist a good, tight melody and builds the bulk of Battle Studies upon them: the elegant "Half of My Heart," the softly soulful "Perfectly Lonely." Here, Mayer is effortlessly seductive and somewhat irresistible, and it's easy to see why the ladies love cool John.

$11.65 By the time of this, its eighth album, in 1974, Procol Harum had weathered the departure of several key members. Acoustic Guitar Moods songs
$9.99 Black Eyed Peas, the hip-hop crossover juggernaut that propelled singer Fergie and producer Will.I.Am to superstardom, have, since 2003's ELEPHUNK, been audaciously plugging away at their bombastic but lighthearted style of rap-cum-dance pop--an effort that has translated to a run of successful chart-topping singles including "My Humps," "Pump It," and "Don't Phunk with My Heart." Eager to follow up on the platinum-selling success of 2005's MONKEY BUSINESS, Black Eyed Peas have returned ...
| | Leona Lewis Echo CD (2009)
Acoustic Guitar Moods album
$11.18 The goal of Leona Lewis' 2007 debut, Spirit, was to prove that an X Factor winner could be a phenomenon not just in the U.K., but in the rest of the world. The goal of her second album, 2009's Echo, is to prove that success was no fluke, to build upon "Bleeding Love" and turn Lewis into an actual diva. Certainly, Echo in any of its incarnations -- its song listings are tailored for individual markets, with the U.K. getting a cover of Oasis' "Stop Crying Your Heart Out," while the U.S. gets a second song co-written by Justin Timberlake -- uses the chilly, synthesized "Bleeding Love" as its foundation, creating a sheet of sound equal parts Euro-pop and modern American R&B. As opposed to the often-stuffy Spirit, this is proudly modern, and if the sounds emanating from the two sides of the Atlantic might seem to be aesthetically opposed, they're both producer-driven music constructed layer by layer from rhythm to the vocal, where the overall sound matters more than what's being sung. Which isn't to say that Lewis doesn't sing the hell out of the songs on Echo: she has an uncanny gift for hitting impossible notes without seeming as if she's grandstanding. In fact, there's nary an ounce of diva in Lewis, she seems to enjoy singing for the sake of it, which helps her out on an album like Echo, where the melodies are elliptical, not catchy, designed to showcase range, not to stick in the head or evoke emotion. Similarly, the productions are designed to hop into as many different formats as possible -- rhythmic enough for clubs, glassy enough for radio -- and ...
| | Lou Reed New Sensations CD (1984) Reissue; Remastered
Acoustic Guitar Moods CD music
$11.18 Lou Reed never struck anyone as one of the happiest guys in rock & roll, so some fans were taken aback when his 1984 album New Sensations kicked off with "I Love You, Suzanne," a catchy up-tempo rocker that sounded a lot like a pop tune. After reaffirming his status as one of rock's greatest poets with The Blue Mask and Legendary Hearts, what was Reed doing here? Lou was having a great time, and his pleasure was infectious -- New Sensations is a set of straight-ahead rock & roll that ranks with the most purely enjoyable albums of Lou's career. Reed opted not to work with guitarist Robert Quine this time out, instead overdubbing rhythm lines over his own leads, and if the guitars don't cut quite as deep, they're still wiry and in the pocket throughout, and the rhythm section of Fernando Saunders and Fred Maher rocks hard with a tough, sinewy groove. And while much of New Sensations finds Reed in a surprisingly optimistic mood, this isn't ...

Hollis is not a screw up, not really. He has issues, but he’s not violent, not really. He may drink a little too much alcohol on occasion, and he may smoke a little too much, but really, he still has it together, sorta. A SD native, M.T. has never moved from the area, (or moved out of his mom’s garage). We think he is scared. So scared in fact, he actually stayed in town, went to school, and graduated from SDSU with a teaching degree, (which he will probably never put to use). M.T. established M.T. Minded Industries in 2004 and has since invested all of his time and energy in pursuing a career that few thought would endure. A writer, a producer, a singer and a rapper, M.T. combines dancehall reggae and hip-hop in a fusion fashion that is an ultimate reflection of his life growing up in the diversity of “Americas Finest” city. As of recent, M.T. has developed into a businessman of sorts, as he is currently undertaking the incredibly difficult task of managing his music career while at the same time maintaining an independent record label. Although an arduous task, he is a hard working, driven individual and has set his mind to succeeding in the ...
| | Tobias Froberg Somewhere In The City CD (2006)
Acoustic Guitar Moods songs
$12.45 In a set of explanatory notes published on his website and intended to place his songs into perspective, Swedish singer/songwriter Tobias Fröberg often makes a point of stressing the casualness of his writing and recording process. One song, he says, was recorded in the open air on a hot July day, the birds chirping above. Another was recorded on his sofa. Yet another was penned after consuming a couple of bottles of wine and still another in a guitar store. Yet despite the presumably easygoing approach to its creation, and its general minimalism, Somewhere in the City feels neither informal nor tossed off. While simplicity is its hallmark, there are also moments of deceptive complexity: layers of lush choral vocal harmonies, bold instrumental statements, words that require considerable thought. Fröberg's gentle alternative folk-pop has been compared to the likes of Paul Simon and Nick Drake (the former is evident, the latter hardly), and contemporary ...
