Meditations
$10.59 One of Enya's most popular releases, WATERMARK is an enchantingly dreamy album, featuring washes of keyboards and ethereal vocals. On the title track, the gentle piano melody mimics the sound of falling water, and Enya's multi-tracked voice cascades over the music like a ...
| | Loreena McKennitt Book Of Secrets CD (1997)
Meditations
$15.65 Loreena McKennitt began her career as a New Age pop chanteuse, steeped in Celtic folk mysticism and possessed of an airy, ethereal voice. Over the course of her career she has dabbled to varying extremes in the pop format, but she remains true to the spirit of the traditional balladeer on THE BOOK OF SECRETS. With the aid of top-flight musicians like Danny Thompson and David Rhodes, she weaves a web of fanciful, wispy folk-rock that's not afraid to be beautiful as it pulls listeners in with it's comforting hypnotic qualities.
Personnel: Loreena McKennitt (vocals, harp, kanoun, accordion, piano, keyboards); Brian Hughes (vocals, ...

| | Deva Premal Embrace CD (2002)
Meditations
$13.45 A favorite of yoga studios across the country, EMBRACE has created a stir with its haunting, ethereal music and the beautiful voice of vocalist Deva Premal. Comparisons to Enya and other hypnotic vocalists abound, but dedicated listeners will hear something much deeper than moody pop in Premal?s chants and mantras. ?Om Tare? is a traditional, ancient mantra offered to the goddess of infinite compassion. Its arresting groove seems genuine and reverent, not manipulated by modern studio controls. That?s not to say that EMBRACE doesn?t feature top production skills. Produced by Premal?s long-time partner Miten and world-music veteran Kit Walker, each track is polished, employing just enough studio wizardry to sound contemporary without tipping into New Age sentimentality. Unlike other chant CDs, Premal sounds relaxed, joyous, and open, using varied rhythms and loose phrasing. Such pleasurable listening shouldn?t be reserved only for the yoga mat?EMBRACE is a perfectly soothing and restorative listening experience.
DEVA PREMAL & MITEN ... World Travelers ... Spiritual Gypsies ... Planetary Musicians ... "In our life together we feel closest to the tradition of the Baul mystics of India, who, like the medieval troubadours, traveled from place to place bringing news and music from the beyond, bringing people together in a celebration of meditation." (Deva Premal)Best known for her top-selling chant albums THE ESSENCE and LOVE IS SPACE, Deva Premal and her partner Miten express the ancient wisdom of mantra through a contemporary musical voice. "Over the past 10 years we have devoted our lives to the expression of love and gratitude through music," says Miten. "Our music is not intended as entertainment. The true purpose is to awaken a longing in the heart for that which is omnipresent: the experience of silence and meditation." Planetary musicians who spend their lives touring the world, Deva Premal & Miten have performed in the US, Japan, Europe, Asia, Brazil and Australia. German-born Deva Premal, is a classically trained musician and gifted singer who grew up in an atmosphere of mantras and eastern spirituality. Her first two albums, THE ESSENCE and LOVE IS SPACE topped New Age charts and popularity polls in yoga centers all over Europe, Australia and America. Her third album, EMBRACE is being released in May 2002.Miten, originally from Britain, began as a singer-songwriter-guitarist in the 70's opening for such groups as Fleetwood Mac and Ry Cooder. He then discovered the power of meditation and left the world of rock 'n' roll behind. Miten has a number of albums of original songs, including STRENGTH OF A ROSE, TRUST THE SILENCE and BLOWN AWAY.Deva Premal & Miten met at an ashram in India in 1990. While Deva Premal's name is more widely known, their ...

| | 4Hero Play With The Changes CD (2007) Digipak
Meditations
$16.15 A couple years before OutKast's Dré and Big Boi diverged creatively while retaining their group identity, 4hero's Dego and Marc Mac took up a similar division of labor. The initial result, 2001's mostly brilliant Creating Patterns, was even more elaborately musical and past-indebted than 1998's Two Pages, despite continued protests from those who had come to demand nothing less than renegade innovations. The detractors will only continue to feel betrayed by Play with the Changes. Despite six years away and a long list of extracurricular projects, including DKD's Future Rage and the 4hero Life: Styles mix, the album is Creating Patterns' twin. You could even look at a thorough description of Creating Patterns, switch around some pronouns, and have a fairly accurate perception of the album's makeup. Marc Mac again helms classicist songs that take cues from the work of Charles Stepney and the Mizell Brothers, with sky-high production values and ample string arrangements. Dego tends to stick to the meeting point between broken beat, neo-soul, and contemporary R&B, and the lone instantly discernible difference ...
