Principally recorded at Field Of Dreams Studio, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Although he apparently shot himself in the foot several times throughout his career, guitarist Michael Schenker always seems to manage to land back on his feet. And the latest "personal victory" came in the form of 2003's Arachnophobiac. After exiting UFO after a several album-long "reunions," rumors spread about Schenker's health and well-being. But the longtime guitar hero silenced his doubters with an extensive tour, as well as an all-new solo release. Schenker has hooked up once more with quite possibly the best vocalist he's worked with since Phil Mogg, a chap named Chris Logan, and also enlists the help of a rhythm section that is certainly not light on technique -- bassist Stu Hamm (best known for his work with Joe Satriani) and drummer Jeremy Colson (Marty Friedman, Steve Vai). Although there is plenty of exceptional guitar work here (after all, it's on the Shrapnel label -- known for its shred-heavy releases), Schenker puts songwriting first, resulting in such standouts as "Evermore" and "Illusion." Although the lyrics become a bit predictable at times, Arachnophobiac (which means one who is scared of spiders, by the way) proves that Schenker is still alive and well. ~ Greg Prato

| Arachnophobiac Music Review Average Rating: (3.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Latest album I have listened to the album, probably, five - six times only but I certainly feel the power of the band. I guess, musically it is not the strongest one but you cannot deny M. Schenker's talent to create classical hard rock sound. Also, the ability of the guitarist to release one album after another practically every year is a noticable quality. The majority of the artists in this genre spend at least several years to write something new. On the whole, it is a good buy for the MSG's fan as well as for someone who is interested in this type of music.

Good, but something missing. First of all, I am a huge UFO/MSG fan. Michael has been one of my favorite guitarists since I first heard him play way back in the mid 1970's. However, this CD, while still good, is a little disappointing. I really think that, even though I love getting my yearly UFO/MSG fix...that is probaly the problem. Michael has stayed so busy with new releases over the last 5 or so years, that I think the writing and playing is lacking with new ideas. It seems that maybe Michael needs to refocus his creative energy. Too much sounds so similiar. He is a riff-meister who...needs some new riffs? Again, I hate to be critical, because I still do enjoy this CD, and if you love Michael, you have to have it, right? But, this is nowhere near as exciting or original as his work on the UFO CD's "Walk On Water" or "Covenant". Those "new" CD's (within the last 5 years) are both incredible and fresh. Michael's Guitar is Magic It's amazing how Michael Schenker's guitar can sound the same now as it did years ago in UFO Lights Out. The new album is very good with great vocals and great guitar licks. Submitted by a reviewer (Dartmouth, MA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Solid, but short of guitar firepower. Latest Schenker offering is a decent affair with some surprisingly hook-laden toons. My biggest complaint is the fact that Jeff Watson plays 4 solos. Nothing against Jeffy, but he ain't no Schenker and that's who I paid my hard earned Canadian bucks to hear. The album is also short on those little fills, intro and outro solos that are typical of the main man.
Other than that, it's well written, played, produced, etc., just a little
more mustard required guitar wise next time.

$14.29 Survival sans Michael Schenker will forever be the plight of English hard rock heavyweights UFO. Indeed, for many ardent fans, the validity of the group's existence appears to hinge on the presence of the irascible German within its ranks. But with all due respect to the incomparable mad axeman, even his formidable talents have done little to elevate UFO's performance during its reunions of the '90s and 2000s, so it's only fair that the enduring "classic" trio of vocalist Phil Mogg, bassist Pete Way, and rhythm guitarist/keyboardist Paul Raymond should be free to carry on with or without him. They do the latter on 2004's You Are Here, a steady but very workmanlike album (recorded, ironically enough, in Germany) on which the lineup is rounded out by drummer Jason Bonham and American guitarist Vinnie Moore. Opening numbers like the AC/DC-riffed "When Daylight Goes to Town," the rhythmically jumpy "Black Cold Coffee," and the cool grooving "The Wild One" all ...

Put together by renowned studio musician Bob Kulick (best known to Kiss fans as the brother of Bruce Kulick, and as a guest guitarist on numerous Kiss albums), HEAVY HITTERS puts Schenker together with quite a few notable names from both the heavy metal and classic rock genres. Featured are covers of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" (featuring Tim "Ripper" Owens on vocals), Pink Floyd's "Money" (with Tommy Shaw), Mountain's ...
