Young R&B siren Mya's voice first caught national attention with her song-stealing chorus on Pras's everpresent 1998 hit "Ghetto Superstar" from the movie "Bulworth." After that, it seemed the youthful singer with the dulcet, yet surprisingly acrobatic voice seemed to be everywhere; providing the hook for the theme to "The Rugrats Movie," teaming with Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, and Pink on "Lady Marmalade," and releasing her own records, as well as making a memorable acting turn in the blockbuster CHICAGO.
Mya's third record MOODRING reveals her cinematic connection to be no coincidence, as it's full of drama, from the theatrical vocal phrasing to the lush production. Despite a gentle countenance, Mya's no fading flower, asserting her intellectual and sexual prowess throughout the album, from the first track "My Love Is Like...Wo." Mya's brazen attitude is perfectly tempered by an engaging pop-R&B approach straight from the playbook of the Jacksons' vintage '80s work, the best balance coming on breezy tracks like "Sophisticated Lady" and "Late."
Personnel includes: Mya (vocals); Common (rap vocals); Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis (various instruments); Bobby Ross Avila (guitar, Wurlitzer piano, strings); Derek Scott (guitar); Jerry Hey, Gary Grant (horns); DJ Harper, Earl Fleming (keyboards); Alex Al (acoustic & electric basses); Eddie Cole (bass); Steve Ferrone (drums); Luis Conte (percussion); Missy Elliott, Katrina C. Willis (background vocals).

Moodring Music Review Average Rating: (4.1 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Love me some mya Its her best cd so far, love more of this track than the predecessors. Moodring Ignore the critics.
I remember this album when I was 16 and bought it. I love this album. Mya has maturity and grown into a well-developed adult. The music is very diverse. Mya knows how to create music. This is her most personal album to date. This album has been certified GOLD. This album is Mya's playground. She is taking a step forward to become another Janet Jackson. Beautiful at her Best I haven't heard the entire cd, but so far, i think it is wonderful. She has always had a style very unique from what the music industry predicted it to be. She works hard, and i beleive that she will inspire a lot of people with her music, if they gave her a chance. I love her song Fallen! It's pretty unique because it has so many different versions of it. I like the one with the male voices in the background. Mya is comin up! Moodring album
$12.65 With her follow-up to her commercially successful debut album, Mya has taken a small step towards shedding her squeaky-clean image and embracing a more mature sound. Many of the best moments on Fear of Flying come with the help of other artists such as Jadakiss of the Lox and Left-Eye from TLC. With producer Swizz Beatz behind the soundboard for her and rapper Jadakiss making his presence felt on "Best of Me," the single is the album's highlight. "Takin' Me Over" featuring Left-Eye shows that when pushed Mya can hold her weight among R&B heavyweights. Without the energy of collaborators in the mix, many of her solo tracks wander into predictability. The album relies too heavily on tepid ballads such as the title track and "Man of My Life." Yet songs like "Can't Believe," "For the First Time," and "Lie Detector" show an emotional depth that lacked in her debut. Mya's sophomore effort proves that she is a promising young talent, but still has yet to develop the chops necessary to rank among the ...

| | Ciara Goodies CD (2004)
Moodring music CDs
$8.49 As a rare female voice in the world of crunk, Ciara is in the unique position to offer a counterpoint to the multitude of hits like Lil Jon's "Get Low" and Petey Pablo's "Freek-a-Leek," which feature men going into clubs and calling out any attractive female. On Ciara's breakout single, "Goodies," the singer coos sultrily--but forcefully--about her independence and how she refuses to be treated like an object, even enlisting the aforementioned Lil Jon and Pablo help out, producing and guest rapping, respectively. It's no wonder "Goodies" was a 2004 summer smash, with its singularly disarming combination of an empowering message backed ...

"It was worn out in a matter of months." Her home life was filled with music since her father was an old-time jazz and blues buff and believed a home should be filled with the sounds of music rather than the sound of a TV. He was also a jazz and boogie woogie piano player for many years.Kate formed a folk duo in the early 1990's which lasted for several years and while searching for a Dolbro player she met Hollis through mutual friends and a new duo and musical direction was born.Kate's musical influences ...
