Best Of The Best: Legendary Bluegrass Duets album
$13.99 Jim & Jesse might be bluegrass's most famous act next to Bill Monroe, and they certainly have the catalog to back up the claim. While THE JIM & JESSE STORY is a fantastic collection, the set does not include the duo's original performances--all of the songs are re-recordings of their most famous hits from sessions in the early '90s with former members of the Virginia Boys. Despite this, Jim & Jesse have never made a sub par recording and these performances have the duo's heavenly harmonies and stellar picking aplenty. This 2007 reissue features four previously unreleased tracks from the original sessions--"Where Do We Go From Here?," "Are You Tired of Me Darling?," "Rider in the Rain," and "Those Brown Eyes." THE JIM & JESSE STORY is not the best collection of the duo's most classic performances--for that, try JIM & JESSE: 1952-1955--but these readings pop and are a worthy introduction.
By the time Jim and Jesse McReynolds recorded THE JIM & JESSE STORY for CMH in 1990, the duet had been major stars of the bluegrass scene for nearly 40 years. As you might imagine, a group with that much history has a pretty sizeable repertoire to draw from. It should come as no surprise, then, that this album--which contains 24 of Jim & Jesse's most popular numbers--is a wall-to-wall ...

| | Alan Jackson Let It Be Christmas CD (2002)
Best Of The Best: Legendary Bluegrass Duets CD music
$9.89 Unlike HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS, Alan Jackson's fine 1993 holiday album, LET IT BE CHRISTMAS sticks exclusively to the chestnuts. Though Jackson has built a career as one of country music's premier good 'ol boy neo-honky tonkers, here he employs heavily orchestrated arrangements more characteristic of Sinatra than Skynyrd. The setting reveals him to be a highly adaptable and technically superior vocalist, and the music is gorgeous. Though longtime ...

| | Lonestar This Christmas Time CD (2000)
Best Of The Best: Legendary Bluegrass Duets music CDs
$5.89 In the great scheme of things--which is to say in the context of the gazillions of earlier pop Christmas albums--Lonestar's entry into the seasonal sweepstakes probably occupies the middle ground; not quite as good as Phil Spector's A CHRISTMAS GIFT TO YOU but certainly better than the Singing Dogs' "Jingle Bells." (Actually, the Spector reference is not completely out of the ballpark, as the group covers his version of "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" here).
In any ...

Best Of The Best: Legendary Bluegrass Duets CD music
$18.95 JAN ABRAMSJan has entertained both the West and East coasts with her high-spirited performances of Broadway show tunes and popular standards. This native New Yorker has appeared in cabarets and clubs, lent her voice to weddings and political events and thrilled listeners at senior centers and on cruise ships. 'Rainbow Wings' is Jan's debut recording.'Cabaret & Me' by Jan AbramsI grew up in New York City and come from a musical family. My father and his two brothers were piano tuners. And my uncle, Vic Abrams, was a songwriter. He never made it big, but he was fortunate enough to have some of his songs recorded by Nat King Cole, Dean Martin and Eddie Fisher. Whenever my father and uncles got together, you could hear beautiful music and beautiful three-part harmonies. I would listen in awe. They would sing the wonderful standards like - Don't Blame Me, I Should Care and When I Fall In Love, just to name a few. When I found out I could sing, and, more importantly - when the Abrams ...
