This 25th Anniversary edition of John Carpenters quintessential horror film features a high-definition widescreen transfer, plus an unprecedented colelction of bonus features, such as audio commentary with Carpenter, Jamie Lee Curtis and Debra Hill, an 87 minute documentary: Halloween: a Cut Above the Rest, on locatin 25 years later, a new 10 minute featurette, theatrical trailer, TV Spots, Radio spots, more.

The film which ushered in the modern age of horror stands well above its many sequels and clones because John Carpenter's taut direction makes it truly scary. Jamie Lee Curtis, in her debut role, plays a babysitter who must protect herself from the deadly Michael Myers, a mental institution escapee who killed his sister on Halloween fifteen years earlier. Called "the most successful independent motion picture of all time," HALLOWEEN is also one of most frightening films ever made.

Perhaps the most influential and successful independent film ever made, HALLOWEEN is the movie that put director John Carpenter on the map as a viable filmmaker. An exercise in simple, pure horror, HALLOWEEN takes us into the world of a mad killer, Michael Myers, who at a very young age stabbed his older sister to death. Locked away for many years in a mental hospital Michael escapes one night and returns to his hometown to continue his killing spree. Jamie Lee Curtis, in her first role, plays the resourceful babysitter who is chased by the killer on Halloween night. Produced for very little money and a tight shooting schedule, HALLOWEEN was a stunning success when it was released. Written by John Carpenter and his longtime producer Debra Hill, the film set their careers on fire, with both of them working together many times over the next 25 years. The film also made a star out of Jamie Lee Curtis and turned the slasher movie into a viable, successful genre. HALLOWEEN has been copied, parodied and even turned into a franchise of its own, but the original is still considered the best of the bunch. HALLOWEEN was John Carpenter's first foray into horror, and remains the standard to which all other modern horror films are measured.

Theatrical release: October 25, 1978. HALLOWEEN was the film debut for actress Jamie Lee Curtis, daughter of Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis. HALLOWEEN includes a clip of the Howard Hawks-Christian Nyby classic, THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD. Years later, director John Carpenter would remake that film as THE THING. Sam Loomis, the character played by Donald Pleasence, is also the name of Janet Leigh's boyfriend in PSYCHO. The film was shot in spring, when the leaves were not in color, so fake leaves were used and, to accommodate the meager budget, reused. The mask that Michael Myers wears is a William Shatner mask, only sprayed white to make it look more creepy. The film's score is credited to "The Bowling Green Philharmonic," which was actually John Carpenter and a group of musician friends. Carpenter would go on to compose the music, usually keyboard-based, for most of his other films.

Halloween Quotes/Excerpts:

"Was that the bogeyman?"--Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis), after Michael is shot off a balcony "As a matter of fact...it was."--Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence)

i love this movie it is scary suspenseful and does not need blood. none of the seqels or rip offs of this movie will ever come near this unbelievable classic that no other horror movies can even come near. Plus it was made with a very low budget and made much more than it cost to make the movie. this movie will never be topped.

5 stars A must have!
Watch this movie with the lights out, on Halloween night. When I first saw this movie, I was six years old, and of course, Michael is six years old at the beginning where he stabs he sister to death. (I have a sister, and she didnt like it so much) This movie is basically about a babysitter being stalked by pure evil.

You thought Michael Myers was decapitated at the end of HALLOWEEN: H20? Think again. The latest installment in the popular horror franchise, HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION, uses a clever premise to give the legendary murderer yet another opportunity to wreak havoc on a cast of innocent characters. Back in Haddonfield, Illinois, Freddie Harris (Busta Rhymes), upstart entrepreneur of Dangertainment.com, recruits six lucky college students to partake in a potentially dangerous game. Wearing miniature video cameras, the participants must spend Halloween night inside the decrepit home of Michael Myers, to the delight of Internet viewers all over the country. While most of the kids are in it for fun, fame, and fortune, Sara Moyer (Bianca Kajlich) is a glaring exception. Innocent, shy, and nervous, Sara grudgingly joins her friends Jen (Katee Sackhoff) and Rudy (Sean Patrick Thomas), against her better judgment. As darkness sets in and the bodies begin to pile, it's up to Sara--aided by an Internet pen pal--to put an end to Michael once and for all (or so she thinks!). Director Rick Rosenthal (HALLOWEEN 2) and screenwriters Larry Brand and Sean Hood incorporate technology into the story, using a grainy visual approach to add another layer of creepiness to the proceedings. The reality programmers at DangerTainment have selected Rudy, Bill, and a group of thrill-seeking teenagers to spend one fun-filled night in the childhood home of serial killer Michael Myers. But the planned live broadcast turns deadly when their evening of excitement becomes a night of horror as Michael himself decides to crash the party! Stars Busta Rhymes, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ryan Merriman, Sean Patrick Thomas, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tyra Banks - Director: Rick Rosenthal. Special features include Commentary With Rick Rosenthal And Robert A. Ferretti; Deleted And Alternate Scenes With Director Commentary; Photo Gallery; Web Cam Special With Director Commentary; Tour Of Set more.

Veteran slashers Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees join forces in this combination sequel to the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and FRIDAY THE 13TH series. The film begins with a quick recap of both Freddy and Jason's "lives," underscoring their respective motivations to kill and their distinct weaknesses. Freddy (Robert Englund) explains that the present children of Elm St. (including Monica Keena, Jason Ritter, Katherine Isabelle, and Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child) have no memory of him, and if they don't know he exists, he can't enter their dreams to kill them. Ingeniously, he reaches out to Jason (Ken Kirzinger), the brutish death machine from Camp Crystal Lake, to go on an Elm Street killing spree, hoping a lot of gory murder will jog the town's memory. Jason is up to the task, quickly dispensing with teenager after teenager in suburban homes, cornfields, medical labs and, of course, the forest. Freddy grows jealous over Jason's body count, and so must intervene, setting off a battle royale between the two highly adored slasher heroes across dreamworlds and realities. In another post-modern twist, a character seemingly modeled after Jay from Kevin Smith's films appears in the movie, adding both a comedic element and another level of reality vs. fiction. FREDDY VS. JASON employs a variety of special effects to update these undying series, not the least of which is uniting their once disparate stories. This DVD feature film stars Monica Keena, Kelly Rowland, Jason Ritter, Christopher George Marquette, Lochlyn Munro and Robert Englund. Special DVD features in this 2-dvd set include 18 deleted scenes, alternate opening and ending, commentaries, interviews, production documentary, visual effects documentary, music video lots more.

From German director Tom Tykwer, whose energetic RUN LOLA RUN wowed audiences in 1998, comes this ethereal modern-day fairy tale. Hypnotizing German actress Franka Potente (RUN LOLA RUN, BLOW) stars opposite deft, volatile newcomer Benno Furmann. Using beautiful visuals involving ice cubes, underwater bubbles, rain, and the well-worn buildings of Wuppertal, Tykwer implements his signature filming style--a roving, curious, rapid camera that examines its subjects in extreme close up, follows letters into mailboxes, and soars over the nighttime city like a bird. The musical score and the impeccable use of sound complete the film's sensory excellence. Bodo (Furmann) and Sissi (Potente) come together under strange circumstances: at the scene of an accident where Bodo saves Sissi's life after she is run over by a truck. Then he disappears. Sissi returns to her little room in the nursing ward of a psychiatric hospital where she works with mentally ill patients, one of whom is her own father. However, she cannot forget the man that saved her and has a powerful feeling that her life is inherently connected with his. Unable to pick up her life where she left it before the accident, she seeks out Bodo, who lives in a dilapidated house with his brother, and quickly establishes a steadfast bond with him. Sissi works in a psychiatric hospital, but her safe, predictable life almost ends when she is hit dead-on by a truck. From out of the blue, a man miraculously saves her life...then disappears into thin air and Sissi sets out to find him.

Renny Harlin (DIE HARD 2, DEEP BLUE SEA) directs this supernatural thriller about descendants of powerful New England families. The sons of Ipswich are legendary at Spenser Academy, the local boarding school. Handsome and popular, these four teenage friends can trace their roots to the founding families of the Ipswich Colony, settled in the late 1600s. For years these Massachusetts families have harbored the secret that they possess supernatural powers. Their descendants--Caleb (Steven Strait), Reid (Toby Hemingway), Tyler (Chace Crawford), and Pogue (Taylor Kitsch)--have inherited magical powers that first manifested themselves when the boys turned 13 years old. In a nutshell, they can do anything. As they approach their 18th birthdays, they are preparing to "ascend," which means their powers will grow stronger. The downside? The magic is seductive and addictive, and causes premature aging with each use. Ringleader Caleb tries to keep his friends from using magic recklessly, but as the school year begins, strange events and a strong gut instinct convince Caleb that someone is using very powerful magic. Meanwhile, Caleb is exploring his newfound affection for transfer student Sarah (Laura Ramsey). To Caleb's dismay, Sarah becomes a pawn in a power struggle with a descendant of the fifth founding family of Ipswich, a line thought to be lost during Salem's witch trials. Is Caleb strong enough to maintain his power and keep his family and friends safe, or will he yield to this new threat and sacrifice himself? The film draws interesting parallels between the luring, addictive power of magic and the addictions real teenagers face. The sufficiently creepy setting echoes New England and sets the stage for supernatural phenomena. THE COVENANT also stars Sebastian Stan as Chase Collins, a wealthy newcomer to Spenser, and Jessica Lucas as Kate, Sarah's roommate and Pogue's girlfriend. Four teenagers with supernatural powers face the ultimate battle when a mysterious member of a banished family comes into town looking to take over. Extras include director's commentary & behind-the-scenes featurette.
