Iron Maiden lead singer Bruce Dickinson presents his second solo album, with the aid of guitarist/co-producer Roy Z. Away from his "day job" with Iron Maiden, this is where Dickinson gets to experiment a little, engaging in some very different yet engaging moves, including hard rock, acoustically driven songs, grunge, and even a bit of rap. Tracks include "Hell No," "Cyclops," and "1000 Points of Light."
Recorded at Metropolis, Townhouse 3, Westside Studios, London, England; Silver Cloud Studios, Los Angeles, California.

Balls To Picasso CD music
$13.05 To coincide with Bruce Dickinson's final tour with Iron Maiden, the band issued A REAL DEAD ONE, a follow-up to its classic 1985 live album, LIVE AFTER DEATH. Comprised entirely of material from 1986's SOMEWHERE IN TIME and releases thereafter, the live set contains renditions of many of Maiden's U.K. hit singles from the era. While some tracks are noticeably absent ("Infinite Dreams," "Wasted Years," etc.), many of Maiden's best tracks are included, such as "Be Quick or Be Dead," "Can I Play With Madness," "The Evil That Men Do," "Heaven Can Wait," and "The Clairvoyant." Although the band doesn't sound as inspired as it does on its earlier, classic live collection, several tracks here are played with a passion not found in the studio versions.
When the time came to conclude the Bruce Dickinson era with their second official live album, heavy metal legend Iron Maiden was faced with the common dilemma of how to adequately balance both old and new material into one package. So ...

| | Deep Purple Who Do We Think We Are CD (1973)
Balls To Picasso album
$16.15 After establishing itself as a hard-rock giant, thanks to endless touring and the release of such milestone records as MACHINE HEAD and IN ROCK, Deep Purple was in a state of turmoil when it went into the studio to record 1972's WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE? Despite all the infighting, the band pulled together long enough to record seven tracks that only bolstered the band's reputation.
The best-known ...
| | Saxon Eagle Has Landed III CDs (2006)
Balls To Picasso CD music
$16.75 It was on the concert stage (or more precisely, their local bar's stage) that the majority of New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands caused an initial buzz in their native land. And one of the genre's most popular live acts at the time was Saxon. Thus far, the group has issued countless live sets over the years, and 2006 saw the latest entry in their ongoing The Eagle Has Landed series. Recorded during various Europe dates circa 2004 and 2005, the double-disc Eagle Has Landed, Vol. 3 contains both blasts from the past and new tracks (disc one focusing on their early days through 1984, while the majority of disc two focuses on 1991 through 2004). Saxon 2006 only sees two original bandmembers still in attendance -- singer Biff Byford and guitarist Paul Quinn -- but Saxon's signature, anthemic metal sound remains intact. With Saxon's '80s era considered by most fans to be their strongest, the first disc is expectedly the better of the two, as it includes "Never Surrender," "And the Bands Played On," "Warrior" (which sounds like Kill 'Em All-era Metallica), ...

After 30-plus years with Columbia Records, Miles Davis departed to sign with Warner Brothers Records. TUTU finds Miles entering the world of MIDI, chaperoned by former sideman, Marcus Miller and pop jazz hitmaker Tommy LiPuma, and beat box music would never be the same again.
TUTU is the birth of a new kind of cool, based on the emblematic street beats of the mid-1980s, brimming over with orchestrally-styled ...

| | Neil Young Hawks & Doves (1980)
Balls To Picasso CD music
$15.29 All tracks have been digitally remastered using HDCD technology.

Following up the energetic, one-two punch of RUST NEVER SLEEPS and LIVE RUST, Neil Young takes a more understated route with 1980's HAWKS & DOVES. On rustic tracks such as "Little Wing" and "The Old Homestead" (both written in the mid-'70s), Young revisits his HARVEST era with a spare sound that relies heavily on his distinctive voice and acoustic guitar. As the album progresses, its scope widens both musically and lyrically; "Stayin' Power" is a jaunty, piano-driven tune about the power of love, while "Comin' Apart at Every Nail" is a guitar-laden hoedown that comments on the US government. This surprisingly patriotic tone (especially coming from a Canadian) This politically ...
