Formed by Cedric Bixler and Omar Rodriguez from the ashes of their previous band At the Drive-In, the Mars Volta takes a dizzying journey to hell and back on this colorfully titled album, traveling inside the mind of a man who attempted suicide but went into a week-long coma before ultimately choosing death. As one might expect the ride is intense and at times disturbing. Galloping bass by Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers) provides the rocky foundation for exploratory psychedelic guitar experimentation and keyboard soundscapes that paint an aural picture of madness.
The centerpiece of DE-LOUSED IN THE COMATORIUM is the 12-minute plus "Cicatriz Esp." Its long, ambient middle section lulls you into a nervous calm before breaking out into a Santana-esque jam. Take care, though; trying to interpret the lyrics, or song titles ("Eriatarka") for that matter, in a literal sense will undoubtedly place you in the same deep psychic void as the subject. In an era where cookie-cutter bands pretending to be angry at life are the norm, the Mars Volta is a shining example of originality and talent.
Recorded at the Mansion, Los Angeles, California.
Producers: Rick Rubin, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez.
The Mars Volta: Cedric Bixler (vocals); Omar Rodriguez (guitar); Jon Theodore, Jeremy Michael Ward, Flea, Ikey Isaih Owens.

I haven't felt this excited hearing a cd since I first heard "Louder than love","Ten","Temple of the dog","Gish", and "Undertow". Please god, tell me there's more to come after The Mars Volta. Can't wait to see these guys live. Enjoy!!! Submitted by meshquite (ozone park, ny) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Excellent CD! If you want something different, then look no further than "De-Loused In The Comatorium". Submitted by cmaMath13 (Greenwood, IN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Yes! Yes! Yes! I really hate to compare bands to other bands, it discounts the originality of the band and this band is full of creativity and orginality. I think sometimes comparisons are subjective, but....take a little early Genesis, some Radiohead, some quirky Robert Fripp stuff and mix it with modern sounds of experimentilism. Beautiful, it is refreshing and rises far above the stale mediocrity of music. Submitted by d.mangione (Muskegon, Michigan, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
MUSICALLY MAD! These guys have done it again! This albums use of musical genres has no beginning and no end. The sounds of many instruments and chords clash during every song. You'll never hear the same harmonics during an entire song. Very original and genious. Submitted by a reviewer (EP,TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Stop, look, and listen!! I've seen the future, and it's THE MARS VOLTA with their new CD release De-Loused In The Comatorium. This band has just served notice on all the rap-rock (Limp Bizkit+Korn) and pop punk poser (Good Charlotte, Blink 182+all the other Atticus label soundalikes!) crap that has been passed off as "alternative" music for the last few years. THE MARS VOLTA is for real, bringing elements of the past (prog rock+concept albums), with ideas from the future (experimental+punk). Seeing them live will be the only way to truly understand their message of pure musical genius, since my words are only bits of text. Buy the CD, but for God's sake, see them live and soon, especially before they are headlining a major stadium in your neighborhood. THE MARS VOLTA will be the next big thing. No kidding. De-Loused In The Comatorium
$11.39 Derge has been through a lot to get where they are today. Somehow they are still making music and rocking harder than ever. Derge is compiled of four lifelong friends: two original members, Shaun Wagner on drums and Tony Presti on guitar/vocals, along with recent additions Alex Eastenson on bass and BJ Lethal Frank on samples. Reigning from the Sonoma County region, Derge has just released their second full-length album "Wake up".Derge formed in the summer of 1997 and started playing shows around the Northern California area. The band recorded a couple demos. They started off by recording with producer Noah Landis (Neurosis); They then went to Pop Smear Records to record another four-song demo. About a year later they met up with Roger Tschann from Grizzly studios to record their first major independent ...
| | Neil Young & Crazy Horse Live At The Fillmore East CD (2006) With DVD
De-Loused In The Comatorium
$21.29 Neil Young's in-concert guitar prowess with Crazy Horse is well documented. LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST, recorded at a 1970 performance, nevertheless, fills a major hole in the Young legacy, containing the only live recordings of Young's legendary guitar interplay with original Crazy Horse member Danny Whitten, who died the following year. Performing songs from their most recent release, EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS IS NOWHERE, the band simultaneously digs in with a visceral, gritty gestalt, and expands outward with Young and Whitten's exploratory six-string journeys.
Of added interest to hardcore Young fans are performances of three songs that wouldn't be recorded until years later--the countrified "Come on Baby Let's Go Downtown," the elegiac "Winterlong," and the lovelorn shuffle "Wonderin'." Augmenting the basic quartet of Young, Whitten, and the stalwart rhythm section of Ralph Molina and Billy Talbot is Young's once-and-future producer Jack Nitzsche on electric piano. Together the five create a thick, sprawling sonic beast that unfolds itself with undeniable gravitas over the course of this priceless set.
Ever since he started rumbling about releasing his archives some 20, 30 years ago -- it's been so long, it's hard to keep track of the specifics -- Neil Young talked about it as a mammoth box set, or perhaps a series of box sets each chronicling a different era in his career, comprised entirely of unreleased recordings, some live, some studio. It was an eagerly anticipated set, since everybody knew that he had scores of unreleased recordings in his vaults. Not just songs, but full albums that were scrapped at the last minute. He regularly tested out new songs on tour, sometimes rewriting them later, sometimes never releasing them on album. Some of his peers had similar habits -- Bob Dylan had a similar treasure trove of unreleased recordings -- but unlike Dylan, Young took an active interest in archiving this material himself. Given the amount of unreleased tapes, some patience was in order, but as the years stretched ...
