Audio Remixer: Madlib. Recording information: Lost Gates, CA; The Bomb Shelter, Los Angeles, CA. Madlib received a rare opportunity with unfettered access to the storied Blue Note archives and permission to use them as he wished for a remix/interpretation album released on Blue Note itself. The result, Shades of Blue, is really more of a Yesterdays New Quintet album, but Madlib's name is far more recognizable then his alter ego and faux-supergroup, YNQ. So, Shades of Blue features Madlib interpreting and remixing Blue Note classics such as Wayne Shorter's "Footprints" and Gene Harris' "The Look of Slim" (remixed here as "Slim's Return"). Overall, a good time is had by all, as he doesn't just sample the tracks as much as fit them into his own sound. That's why the record would be better compared to the Yesterdays New Quintet debut, Angles Without Edges, where Madlib takes on the personas of numerous instrumentalists (going so far as to credit them individually in the liner notes) and make laid-back break-heavy jams that serve great as background party stuff -- and that's really where Shades of Blue works the best. Intent listening doesn't really give much up, but for smooth subconscious grooves, it's perfect. ~ Jack LV Isles

MADLIB IS THE BEST PRODUCER EVER Buy this album. NOW. RIGHT NOW. Support a real hip-hop producer. Kanye, 9th Wonder, Neptunes, Eminem, Dr. Dre are not nearly at the level of Madlib. He is the GOD of beat-making and no one will EVER be better. Submitted by Bakari (Maryland, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Just buy it!!.....It's M@l:b! The Kool Keith of beats is at it again, and this time somebody messed up and let him loose in the stacks of Blue Note. Yes, Blue Note. Where his mind is free to wander among the grooves and tempos of this lovely garden of sound. The bass roots run deep and tap into the earths magnetism, the essence of sound and motion; Giving nourishment to the delicate chimes and colorful vibes painting this landscape of sound. M@dl:b is the ill bumblebee cross-pollinating grooves creating new species of organic rhythms to further express the beauty of sound in nature.

Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002. You knew the Corrs had made it when they played the final JFK Awards ceremony of the Clinton administration. Playing it would have been achievement enough, but their status as a happening thing was cemented at the end of the ceremony, during the encores, when everybody was taking their final bows. Bill moseyed up over to Andrea, put his arm around her, and when she was looking away, sized her up -- at precisely the same moment Chuck Berry was checking her out. If that doesn't mean that you've broken America, entering its ...
