Mes Courants Electriques
$9.29 Principally recorded at Ocean Groove Studios, Miami Beach, Florida and Mediterranneo Studios, San Jose, Ibiza from 1996-1997.
The third album from the Barcelona Tribe of Soulsters (German producer Claus Zundel, or "The Brave") leaves its predecessors' predilection for German techno beats and English vocals far behind. Instead, the emphasis distinctly moves from the dance club to the bedroom, aided by Paco Fernandez's flamenco guitar. "Alegria" benefits from a slow, captivatingly steady beat that gently and unceasingly propels Fernandez's impassioned arpeggios and Arrantza Aida's wailing vocals. The title track marches steadily in the manner of Ravel's ...
| | Azam Ali Portals Of Grace CD (2002)
Mes Courants Electriques
$11.69 Having made her name as the ethereal vocalist of Vas, Azam Ali ventures forth with this shimmering solo debut. Openly influenced by Hildegard von Bingen, PORTALS OF GRACE continues Ali's long relationship with the music and stories of medieval Europe, drawing from Sephardic, Breton, and Latin sources, to name a few.
The opener, "Lasse Pour Quois," recounts the heartbreak of a 14th-century French member of a little-known order of female troubadours who roamed the continent. "O Quanta Qualia," written by the poet-heretic Peter Abelard, is apparently the only surviving composition from a hymn book ...

| | Laura Pausini Primavera In Anticipo CD (2008)
Mes Courants Electriques
$13.79 Italian vocalist Laura Pausini became a worldwide sensation during the first 10 years of her recording career (although her success in America is minimal compared to Europe and Latin America). PRIMAVERA IN ANTICIPO, released in 2008 in both Italian and Spanish versions, extends Pausini's command over the adult contemporary form, offering up 14 tracks that play like foreign-language versions of Celine Dion or Phil Collins. Like Pausini's previous releases, ...
| | Very Best Of The Rascals CD (2007)
Mes Courants Electriques
$6.09 Recorded from 1965 to 1972. Includes liner notes by Parke Puterbaugh.
A satisfying budget-priced compilation, THE VERY BEST OF THE RASCALS is as good as any (Young) Rascals compilation out there. While Rhino's two-disc ANTHOLOGY 1965-1972 has it beat in terms of comprehensiveness, these 16 tracks, from their first hit "Ain't Gonna Eat My Heart Out Anymore" to their last chart success "See," are the cream of the crop.
All of the hits are here, naturally, including "Good Lovin'," "People Got To Be Free," the superlative "How Can I Be Sure," and of course their biggest hit, "Groovin'." The lesser-known singles and key album tracks, like "A Girl Like You" and "I've Been Lonely Too Long," are nearly the equal of the hits, and overall, this is as solid a collection of '60s blue-eyed soul as you'll find.
Compilation producer: Gary Stewart.
Personnel: Gene Cornish (vocals, guitar); Felix Cavaliere (vocals, piano, organ); Eddie Brigati (vocals, drums, ...
| | Bayanga CD (2003)
Mes Courants Electriques
$30.29 The RAS label might specialize in reggae, but in the case of Puerto Rico's Bayanga, they have a band that's much more than a single genre; in fact, reggae is only apparent on two or three tracks of this self-titled disc. Elsewhere the band takes on salsa, Brazilian axé music, and any number of Caribbean rhythms, as well as forays into much freer ideas (as on "The Cool Bus Experience"). All too often, refusing to be pinned down to such an extent would actually work against them. But in this case, there's an energy and vitality that makes it a plus. They even take on Bob Marley, turning in an excellent version of "I Shot The Sheriff" that's horn-powered, before it takes off into a finale that's eerily reminiscent of early Santana with percussion percolating, and guitar raising the excitement factor. But there's no shortage of pleasures on this disc, whether it's the rootsy "Cohimbre's Stylee'," or the more sophisticated "Rumbaskankin'," which give the song's styles in their titles. These guys can play up a storm -- in fact, about the only area where they could be beefed up is vocally, ...

$16.09 On their 2005 album, titled Bright Yellow Flowers on a Dark Double Bed, The Zephyrs display an organic and elaborate sound making use of natural reverberations, acoustic guitars and mixing influences (pop, country, folk, noise...) in an inseparable unity. | | Riffbrokers Weight Of Line & Intersection CD (2008)
Mes Courants Electriques
$15.15 The Riffbrokers-Weight of Line and Intersection. This act from Washington state has always sported one of my favorite band names, and their excellent roots rock has consistently lived up to their moniker. If I could describe their sound in a sentence, I'd say it would be as if Elvis Costello grew up in the Pacific Northwest and fronted The Replacements. "Told You to Go" kicks things off with just the right mix of swagger, definance and yes, riffs; "Evaporate" is another barnburner, "Myth to Struggle With" shows they can take it down a notch and still deliver the goods, "Roy Orbison" pays tribute to the man in their own style, rather than trying to imitate the inimitable, and "End of All Things" is a standout closer. Riff On!-Absolute Powerpop Blog Nov.4,2008The Riffbrokers offer a stunning snapshot of new-millennium rock and roll: firecracker guitars, cresting melodies and conviction enough to fuel a freight train. Weight of Line and Intersection aches and accelerates like Elvis Costello and Ray Davies conquering dusky heartbreak with mouthfuls of whiskey.– Brian T. Atkinson, American Songwriter magazineThe Riffbrokers have gilded the lily on their third full length release entitled Weight of Line and Intersection . The husband and wife team of Nick and Heather Millward have gathered a fine crop of musical fellows from such bands as ...
