Parts of the Process reflects on five albums and seven years for the London trip-hop act Morcheeba. This stunning 18-track set isn't chronologically arranged, but all the hits and staples are here. Morcheeba loyalists may be slightly disappointed by the exclusion of "Who Can You Trust?" but overall, Parts of the Process captures the beauty of Morcheeba. Big Calm seems to be the major album represented with "The Sea," "Over and Over," "Let Me See," and the song for which this album is named, "Parts of the Process." Other amazing tracks from the band's first release, Who Can You Trust? -- "Tape Loop" and the brooding chill of "Trigger Hippie" -- make this album more complete. But other select cuts are equal in style and still appeal. Cuts from the less popular Charango album add a bit of flair to Morcheeba's sophisticated catalog, especially "What New York Couples Fight About." Even the stormy narrative "Rome Wasn't Built in a Day," from Fragments of Freedom, is chalked in. Those who found Morcheeba's 2001 Back to Mine collection crucial to the band's body of work shouldn't distress; that album doesn't really fit with the direction of this collection. Instead, the trio treats listeners to two brand-new tracks. Big Daddy Kane joins Morcheeba for the funkadelic, hip-hop groove "What's Your Name," while "Can't Stand It" is the band's attempt at chamber pop. While Morcheeba isn't one of the more exclusive acts of British electronic music, they've assessed their power as artists. Parts of the Process is well-suited for those unfamiliar with the band, while still tailored for those faithful followers, too. [A limited edition release of Parts of the Process includes a limited-edition bonus DVD of live material from Morcheeba's brilliant performance at London's Brixton Academy in 2002.] ~ MacKenzie Wilson

For some, Parts Of The Process will be a "best of" introduction to acclaimed U.K. electronica trio Morcheeba. For those who are already fans, Parts Of The Process is a much-anticipated reprise spanning its previous releases of pure pleasure-with two tracks making their debuts: "What's Your Name" featuring Big Daddy Kane and "C

Allman Brothers Band Dreams CDs  (1989) Box Set

Parts Of The Process album
CD $38.09  4.5 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts. Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson. Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted fans. As a result, DREAMS is neither the definitive Allman Brothers collection nor the gift to hardcore fans ...

This U.K. trio injects the aesthetics of trip-hop with a lush, languid, easy-listening air for a concoction that demands a deep, comfortable couch and a top-of-the-line set of headphones. The hypnotic, understated delivery of vocalist Skye Edwards floats over the sweeping synth arrangements, slide guitar, Hammond organ, and subtle technological trickery of brothers Ross and Paul Godfrey. WHO CAN YOU TRUST?, the band's full-length debut, includes the singles "Trigger Hippie," "Tape Loop," and "The Music That We Hear." Atmosphere is paramount for Morcheeba, and TRUST's track list passes through a spectrum ...

Additional personnel includes: Pace Won, Slick Rick, Kurt Wagner, Miriam Stockley, Michael Dove (vocals); Samantha Rowe (cello); Ruth Hammond (flute, saxophone); Debbie Cole (flute); Dan Goldman (keyboards); Richard Harrison, Pino Palladino, Steve Gordon (bass); Miles Bould (percussion). Fragments of Freedom was released in 2000 and not received very well. If critics and fans would have been able to gaze into a crystal ball a couple of years in the future, they would have understood. With the benefit of hindsight, consider Fragments the prototypically disjointed transitional record that saw Morcheeba shifting focus from trip-hop to a more well-rounded mix, as Charango completes the journey that may have been bumpy, but with a sweet destination. Once again, guests are brought in to augment the band's sound; Lambchop's Kurt Wagner returns to help the electronica act with ...

Recorded live at the Manchester Evening News Arena, Manchester, England on December 7, 2001. One of Britain's beloved pop bands, James, officially called it quits in December 2001 after founder Tim Booth announced his departure weeks earlier. You could say it marked an end of an era -- a bittersweet end of the heyday of Madchester. The double-disc Getting Away with It: Live captures James' last ...
