A charming record that is sure to strike an amiable chord among children's audiences and all ages. Sesame Street released "In Harmony" as an effort to bring together an all-star cast of talented musicians known for their commercial appeal during the late '70s. The album opens up with a beautifully spun and delightfully crafted poem/song, "Wynken, Blynken and Nod," words by Eugene Field with melody by Lucy Simon. Sailing off to a sea of dew one starry night are the fisherman three, fishing for the herrin' fish, "nets of silver and gold have we," sing the Doobie Brothers. Catchy and sincerely ethereal, the tune is worth a listen time and time again. Cornelius Bumpus adds extra sugar to the tune with radiant flute and saxophone leads. Singer/songwriting sensation James Taylor puts a charge into the chorus of a "Jelly Man Kelly," a man who makes a feast of anything jelly. Taylor also adds dazzling guitar work to Carly Simon's pleasant vocals in "Be With Me." Star soloist Bette Midler combines her talents with Bruce Roberts and Carole Bayer Sager to create the sassy "Blueberry Pie." Sesame Street creators Frank Oz and Jim Henson touch on the issue of sharing with Ernie and Cookie Monster. Songs by Al Jarreau, Linda Ronstadt, and Libby Titus are also featured, with an entire plethora of singers and crafty backing musicians. This record is pure project-oriented in the highest sense of the word. A symbol of craftiness and musical charm, the musicians and featured singers seemed to not shy away from bringing out their innermost talents to grant young listeners a treat. The families of James Taylor and Carly Simon graciously put much effort into "In Harmony," and the whole cast finishes the record with simplicity and exuberance in the tune "In Harmony." For the soundtrack to Pixar's charming computer-animated movie CARS, the company once again enlisted its go-to composer, Randy Newman, though this time around the veteran singer-songwriter sticks solely to a vibrant instrumental score (as opposed to his pop songs for TOY STORY, MONSTERS INC., etc.). Other artists featured on the album include Sheryl Crow (the revved-up "Real Gone") and Brad Paisley (the twangy, relaxed "Behind the Clouds" and "Find Yourself"), along with Chuck Berry and John Mayer, who each offer up a different take on the cruising classic "Route 66."
With a track listing that's roughly half rock, country, and pop songs and half Randy Newman's score, the Cars soundtrack is probably the least inspired collection of music to support a Pixar film. However, that's only in comparison to the brilliant soundtracks to their other movies -- especially Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. ...

Nebo's 2002 Talkin' Roots - Volume 1 compilation. The following year brought his Jah Lion - Children Of The Nile debut album, a fine set, but one that suggested the singer still had a bit of musical maturing to undergo. With Many Lives, fans will discover an artist that has now come into his own.One can still hear slight echoes of the late, great Prince Lincoln, an influence that too haunted his previous set, but now Iba better straddles the dancehall and singer worlds, his strong, deep tenor evoking the soulfulness of a Frankie Paul or even a Beres Hammond.And it's this emotive quality that imbues the entire album, as Iba delivers his strong cultural messages with absolute conviction. And nowhere more so than on the sizzling "Love Life" and the fiery "World Crises", two of the most powerful tracks on the set. Another excellent pair, "Africa" and "Babylon Don't Like", feature DJs Ijah Menelik and Rafijah respectively, with the sizzling "Zion Trail" also delivered in dancehall style.But a clutch of numbers boast a much sweeter styling, "Don't Talk" amongst them, with "Many Lives" and "Jah Teachings" adding a soulful quality to the honeyed brew. The gentle "Smile" (not The Silvertones smash) is more upbeat, while "On the Road" is delicately etched, although it's the infectious "Vibes" that is guaranteed to become an instant fan favorite.
