Live In Japan album
$9.49 This 1991 reissue of ROCK FOR LIGHT contains three tracks that weren't on the original LP.
Digitally remastered by George Marino (Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
In the early-'80s, the Bad Brains recorded many of the same songs at several different sessions, resulting in such releases as 1982's BAD BRAINS and ROCK FOR LIGHT, 1996's BLACK DOTS, and 1997's ...

| | My Bloody Valentine Isn't Anything CD (1988)
Live In Japan music CDs
$6.09 From its very first moments, My Bloody Valentine's ISN'T ANYTHING announces a musical revolution--the rough, insistent snare hits are joined by scalar bass runs, finally uniting and pausing to give way to a barely recognizable guitar swirl and up-close, unproduced vocals as a new form is born. The album's inimitable sonic collages sought to marry the brash experimentation and punk ethic of Sonic Youth with more pop-oriented ...
| | Slowdive Souvlaki CD (1993)
Live In Japan songs
$8.85 Though not as big and swirling as Just for a Day, there's more of an attempt to put advanced song structure and melody in place rather than just craft infinitely appealing, occasionally thunderous mood music. Everything is simplified, as if Brian Eno's presence on two songs -- he contributes keyboards and treatments and co-wrote one tune after turning down the band's invitation to produce -- hammered home the better aspects of "ambient" music. This is no Music for Airports though. On the opening "Alison," the largely uplifting "When the Sun Hits," and the darkly blissful "Machine Gun," Slowdive are still capable of mouth-opening, spine-tingling flourishes. They've found a way to be quiet, moving, and aggressive simultaneously, mixing trance-like beauty with the ...
| | House Of Love (Butterfly) CD (1990)
Live In Japan album
$8.79 Following the combination of indie success and massive hype leading up to the band's first album proved to be too much for the original lineup, with Bickers leaving after a series of problems and pressures once the group signed to Fontana. Yet rarely has a fraught series of recording sessions resulted in something so flat-out stunning. The House of Love's second self-titled album in a row -- third counting the German singles comp -- remains something of a high-water mark in what can loosely be termed U.K. post-punk music, acting as an effective final statement before the onslaughts of Madchester, grunge, and Brit-pop. It's almost impossible to tell who is more responsible for what on the album, given its stitched-together nature, but whatever Bickers contributes matches Chadwick's cool but never cold performances note for note, and the result is deep blue rapture. Starting with the snaky crawl of "Hannah," sidling in over a series of echoed guitar notes, the 12-song collection does everything from revisiting past heights to scaling new ones. "Shine On" gets re-recorded ...
| | Pavement Slanted & Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe CDs (1992) Remastered
Live In Japan CD music
$14.99 This is a remastered and augmented edition of SLANTED AND ENCHANTED featuring the original album, the WATERY DOMESTIC EP, studio outtakes, two John Peel radio sessions from 1992, and a live recording from Brixton Academy.
Principally recorded at Louder Than You Think, Stockton, California; South Makepeace, Brooklyn, New York and Brixton Academy, London, England between December 1990 and December 1992. Includes liner notes by Stephen Malkmus.
By the time SLANTED & ENCHANTED was released in 1992, Pavement had reached mythical status among indie-rock lovers. The hype had been generated by three masterful vinyl-only releases: SLAY TRACKS (7" EP), DEMOLITION PLOT J7 (7" EP) and PERFECT SOUND FOREVER (10" EP). The dissonant, often beautiful mix of noise and melody on these recordings reaches its apotheosis on SLANTED & ENCHANTED--an album that simultaneously recalls the haunted darkness ...

| | Essential Etta James CDs (1993)
Live In Japan songs
$23.39 Principally recorded in Chicago between 1960-1975. Includes liner notes by David Ritz.
Digitally remastered by Erick Labson (MCA Music Media Studios), except "Would It Make Any Difference," "Pay Back" and "Two Sides To Every Story" which were remixed to stereo from original 4-tracks.
THE ESSENTIAL ETTA JAMES contains 2 CDs worth of recordings Etta James made for Chess Records between 1960-1975. Also included is a 16-page booklet with photos, interviews and track-by-track annotations.
This is the definitive collection of Etta James's career-defining work at Chess Records. Spanning two discs and 44 tracks, THE ESSENTIAL takes the listener chronologically from 1960's heart-wrenching story-song "All I Could Do Is Cry" to 1975's "Lovin' Arms." Newcomers will be impressed by what long-time fans have always known: James is a masterful vocalist capable of moving from airy, nuanced balladry to gutbucket, growling blues within the space of single measure.
This range is amply represented on THE ESSENTIAL with string-sweetened ballads ("Trust in Me"), rave-up rockers ("Something's Got a Hold on Me"), and soul workouts ("842-3089 [Call My Name]"). While the lion's share of material comes from the early '60s, 1967's "Tell Mama," recorded at the famed Muscle Shoals studio and possibly James's best-known song, comes blazing out on the second disc. The singer's skill at interpreting popular material can be heard ...
