Giant Of Marathon DVD

 The movie was good...
...But this DVD spoils it. Unrecognizable if you have seen it, unwatchable if you hadn't. The color is pale, the image lacks definition and the format... is not Dyaliscope 1:2.35 as it should be, nor anything closely resembling it. To top it, I don't think this is the Original or even International version: it seems a very routinely-made English-language dubbing. The great compositions of Jacques Tourneur, the splendid sea photographed by Mario Bava, the prettiness of Mylène Demongeot is lost. Such editions should be forbidden. Like bad, forged coins, they get the good ones out of the market. Some people would have liked to have this interesting although minor film, but once you publish such a disaster, there is no more room in the market for a good version. Unless in Europe...  not the best that could have been made
the prequel to this is really the film the '300 Spartans' which is the telling of the story of the pass of Thermopolye. This film should pick-up where that left off but fails - it is none the less a good watch and well worth having in your collection.

 Enjoyable
One of the better sword and sandal films and one of Reeves' best. A trimmer less herculean and more athletic Reeves doubtless to suit the role of the athlete he portrays. Enjoyable film spoilt by the poor print quality esp. for a dvd. Surely a better mastering source could have been found?
