While it's attributed to the "United Punks of America," A Tribute to Good Charlotte's eager interpretations of the young quartet's songs are delivered predominantly in a British accent. It has the bizarre effect of placing pop-punk -- a distinctly American offshoot of the genre -- in league with its snotty Cockney forefathers. You can't reduce punk rock to an accent. But in the case of Good Charlotte, who blatantly cross U.K. acts like the Sex Pistols with hip-hop influences and latter day American punk revivalism in the form Green Day (themselves a copy of the Buzzcocks), it's worth noting how strange this covers album's principal accent sounds. Musically, Good Charlotte can't match the production fireworks of its namesake; the compression is weaker, and attempts at straight replication are heavy-handed. The performers here are better off when they play "Little Things" and "Anthem" as the simplistic, punk-influenced pop songs they are. The version of "Girls and Boys" that appears here might even be better, since it removes the annoying studio new wave sheen of the original. "Riot Girl" is another standout; the wispy-voiced vocalist sounds endearingly amateurish, adding to the scrappiness of the track. Unfortunately for Good Charlotte, "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" still sounds just like the theme from "The Monkees." Recommended for the avid fan only. ~ Johnny Loftus

Tribute To Good Charlotte album
$13.65 Howdy,Hereâs how this Frankie & the Pool Boys project came togetherâAfter years of heavy duty activity, and for various adult reasons, Pollo Del Mar had to take a break. I was patient, then I got bored... Really bored, and itching to do something. I remembered the Zappa album âRueben and the Jetsâ, where Frank took some of his Mothersâ songs and recast them as Doo-Wop songs. I thought, âHey, Iâll take some old PDM songs and recast them as Surf Music.â Imagine that, Pollo Del Mar playing surf music!?!Dusty came over and we did some recording, but I got bored working on old songs and some of those Pollo tunes just didnât want to get squeezed into the surf mold anyway. So Dusty came over again and we recorded some new stuff. Then I thought, âMan, you know who would sound great on this song?â and I called them up and they said, âYesâ and it all started to come together. But, it wasnât really a Pollo CD, and it wasnât really not one either. Call it a âside projectâ, and, please, anything but âsolo effortâ â thatâs the kiss of death! So who really are âFrankie & the Pool Boysâ? Just a bunch of teenage idiots without a care in the world. They have day jobs cleaning your pool, a night shift parking cars, fake I.D.s and an 8-Track. Theyâve got a â72 Mustang that will be rolling any day now, a date with your daughter next Friday and big, big plans for the future.*****************************************Here\'s ...
