Very Best Of Nina Simone album
$11.05 This 1979 release from sultry American pop singer Jennifer Warnes features ten tracks.
Having compromised on her Arista debut and gotten a hit single for her trouble, Jennifer Warnes took charge of the recording of her second Arista album, co-producing it and writing three songs, including the title track. It was hard to miss the point when Warnes covered Dionne Warwick's 1963 hit "Don't Make Me Over" (written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David) that she was finished with having people tell her what to do. On her own, her taste was impeccable, her song choices including the work of Jesse Winchester, Bob Dylan, and Stephen Foster, and her own songwriting was good, too. She also managed to satisfy the commercial expectations aroused by her previous album, with "I Know a Heartache When I See One" rising into the country Top Ten and the pop and adult contemporary Top 40. (She also made it into all three charts with "Don't ...

Very Best Of Nina Simone songs
$14.95 Many people think of smooth jazz as something that didn't start until the 1980s, but arguably, smooth jazz started around 1966-1968 with the overtly commercial, pop-drenched albums that guitarist Wes Montgomery recorded during the last few years of his life. Love it or hate it, Montgomery's more commercial output had a major impact on Peter White and many other guitarists who have contributed to smooth jazz (including George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Earl Klugh, Chuck Loeb, and Henry Johnson). Musically, a lot has changed since the '60s, but the more things change in music, the more they inevitably stay the same -- and ...

| | Ry Cooder Why Dont You Try Me CD (1985) (Import) Netherlands; Greatest Hits
Very Best Of Nina Simone songs
$14.45 This compilation offers a bakers' dozen from Ry Cooder (guitar/bass/mandolin/vocals), cuts taken from seven of the eight solo studio LPs that he issued between 1970 and 1980. These include his debut Ry Cooder (1970), Into the Purple Valley (1971), Boomer's Story (1972), Paradise and Lunch (1974), Chicken Skin Music (1976), Bop Till You Drop (1979), and Borderline (1980). Notably absent, owing presumably to thematic continuity, are any soundtrack-derived sides, live cuts, or material from the aptly-titled Jazz (1978) long-player. This nicely narrows the scope enough to effectively focus on his arguably underappreciated rock-oriented recordings. Few artists can claim as varied or authentic a range as the multi-instrumentalist Cooder. Prior to devoting a majority of his efforts toward film accompaniment and world music, he came up through the ranks as a backing for vocalist Jackie DeShannon in 1963 at the age of 16. Cooder's prowess became his calling card where he racked up considerable work with the likes of Paul Revere and the Raiders, Captain Beefheart circa Safe as Milk (1967), Randy Newman, Little Feat, Van Dyke Parks, former ...
