$6.29 In Sammo Hung's MR. NICE GUY, Jackie Chan plays a popular TV chef (also named Jackie) who accidentally saves a reporter pursued by two warring gangs--one that looks like the standard Cosa Nostra types, the other a group of upstarts who could have been cast in THE WARRIORS. After the two gangs decide to come after Jackie, he drops his nice guy image and fights back.
Originally slated to be the fifth movie in Chan's POLICE STORY series, the film is filled with Chan's trademark physical comedy and stunts--one of which went awry and briefly ...

Diamond's Edge DVD
$41.75 This is PFM's brilliant follow up to Storia di Amico, both of which are considered progressive rock classics, and for good reason. The diversity, complexity, and integrity of the music here is as fine as anything produced during the early '70s from other prog rock giants such as Yes, Genesis, or King Crimson. The lyrics are in Italian and, while used sparingly, make a valuable contribution to the session's integrity. The music is constantly shifting in style, tempo, and time, but are all held together by recurring themes. Mauro Pagani's airy flute is the perfect antidote to Francone Mussida's ...

Diamond's Edge review
$22.09 A three-pack collection that combines the titles VERTICAL LIMIT, INTO THIN AIR: DEATH ON EVEREST and CLIFFHANGER.
VERTICAL LIMIT (PG-13): As action-director Martin Campbell's heart-pumping new thriller VERTICAL LIMIT begins, an eagle glides gracefully over the stunningly filmed mesas of Utah. Its shadow falls on a vertical rock face being climbed by Peter Garrett (Chris O'Donnell), his father (Stuart Wilson), and sister Annie (Robin Tunney). Suddenly, a backpack hurtles by, followed rapidly by two climbers, whose ropes tear the male Garretts from the rock face. The excruciatingly tense sequence ends in tragedy.
After this stunning opening, the action switches to the Himalayas, where tycoon Elliott Vaughn (Bill Paxton) has financed an expedition that will take him to the summit of K2--the world's second highest mountain. Annie is one of Elliott's party. In the face of a threatening storm, Elliott recklessly insists the climb should continue. The storm duly arrives and decimates the expedition, leaving Elliott and Annie stranded. Peter leads a group of climbers--including the grizzled Montgomery Wick (Scott Glenn) and a French-Canadian nurse (Izabella Scorupco)--in a rescue attempt.
Director Martin Campbell, director of photography Derek Tattersall, many daring cameramen, mountain climbers, avalanche specialists, and special effects technicians, along with veteran editor Thom Noble, deliver a beautifully filmed mountaineering thriller with even more heart-stopping moments than JAWS.
CLIFFHANGER (R): After a ranger (Sylvester Stallone)fails to rescue his partner's girlfriend from a tragic death in the Rocky Mountains, he leaves the rescue team to wrestle with his guilt. When he returns to reconcile his relationship with his own girlfriend, also a rescue ranger, he is drawn into one last mission. This time, the victims they are rescuing turn out to be deadly criminals. Academy Award Nominations: 3, including Best Visual Effects.
INTO THIN AIR: DEATH ON EVEREST (Not Rated): Based on Jon Krakauer's phenomenal #1 best-seller, chronicling the true-life suspenseful struggle for survival on the peaks of the world's highest mountain. This is what happens when a group of people, both amateurs and professionals, ...

Diamond's Edge DVD
$10.29 After the successful independent features about Chinese-American life DIM SUM and EAT A BOWL OF TEA, director Wayne Wang took on the daunting task of adapting Amy Tan's sprawling, multigenerational best-seller THE JOY LUCK CLUB. After her mother's death, June (Ming-Na Wen) is asked to take her place in a mahjong club. The three other members, like her mother, were all born in China before the 1949 revolution. When June learns that she has two half sisters in China, she plans a trip to meet them. With this catalyst, the women begin to tell stories, not just about but their own mothers and their lives in China, but also about their often strained relationships with their Americanized daughters. The flashbacks to China are dramatic, and the stories are heartbreaking. As the film progresses, June learns about a culture that's supposedly her own but that ...
