Pet Sounds Music Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews To The Philistines... Any right thinking person with any sense of musicality can't help but Agree that Pet Sounds is the greatest pop record of all time. Note I didn't say rock Album because it's only rock as a way of easy classification. This album is the lamp that shines a light on teenage male angst. "In My Room", "Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder", "just Wasn't Made For These Times". These are the thoughts of any high school kid perfectly refracted and reflected in great melodies and lyrics. Its no wonder McCartney considers it his favorite album. And in Multichannel what more can you ask for? Submitted by rachnlt54 (Marysville,Oh,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Over-rated Aside from the 3 classic hits which were excellent, the rest is comprised mostly of Brian Wilson whining. Almost like talking in notes rather than singing a melody. I was very disppointed after all the hype. The 5.1 mix is good but not excellent. It sounded like re-mixed 40 year old music, which of course, it was but I've heard many other 30-40 year old 5.1 remixes that were much, much better. Not recommended. Great sound, great video, great liner notes This is how a special edition of an album should be done! Detailed session notes and lists of the musicians that played on every track, videos for a couple of songs, a short documentary, great bonus tracks, and of course the original album in mono, stereo, and surround - even the bonus tracks are in surround!
This two-sided disc is DVD-A on one side and DVD-Video format on the other. Everything on the DVD-A side is duplicated on the DVD-V side, but in Dolby Digital and DTS Surround instead.
Highly recommended to anyone with a DVD player and 5.1 home theatre system. Submitted by dsmccann (Central Massachusetts) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Better than ever I'd heard these songs lots of times, but always with hiss and distortion. It's like a veil has been lifted; it just shows how much Brian Wilson did with the very primitive studio gear of the time.
It might only have a couple of big hits, but the other songs show how much emotional depth the Beach Boys actually had.
The extras are massive, with lots of outtakes, unfinished tracks, videos, and an amazing mono mix that doesn't sound mono, thanks to Brian.
The 5.1 mix actually doesn't use the center channel, which sounds like a bad idea. Actually, that makes the vocals deeper, wider, and closer to mono, just like Brian wanted. Submitted by Chris (Nashville, TN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
