While Sara Evans hasn't assimilated the rock-pop influence into her contemporary country sound to the same bold degree as someone like Shania Twain, she's certainly informed by those sensibilities. There are plenty of rootsy touches to the arrangements here to remind us that this is Nashville, not Hollywood, but the predominance of power ballads and the quality of Evans's big, belting voice suggest what might have happened if Pat Benatar had been a country girl. One can't help wondering, for instance, how conscious the lyrical nod to the Allman Brothers' "Ramblin' Man" might be in Evans's "Backseat of a Greyhound Bus." And once you've sunk your teeth into a big, juicy Diane Warren torch song like the epic production "Need to Be Next to You," you're on your way to pop divahood whether you like it or not.

The girl is back with a vengence! Goosebumps galore. I've been waiting a long time for Sara to bring out a new CD. Was the wait was worth it - you betcha!. Not pure country granted - but that "haunting" voice can sing anything with feeling. I'm sure this album won't get Sara 9 CMA award nominations - but who cares, just enjoy. Load it in the in-car CD - crank up the volume and get yourself a sore throat joining in - I did, and I will many more times yet.
Rock on Sara - just keep them CD's coming I'll even put up another shelf. Submitted by a reviewer (Milton Keynes . U.K.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Sara does it again! Sara Evans is like a fine wine...her music just gets better with age. This CD is awesome, from the first single "Backseat of a Greyhound Bus" to my favorite track "Otis Redding". A great collection of 13 tunes that is sure to please all country music fans! Submitted by a reviewer (Columbus, OH, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Reminds me of Michael I love this C.D. it's a Michael C.D. so many of the songs make me feel close to Michael. For example the song "I need to be next to you", and also "Niagra" both beautiful songs. Great C.D.
BTW I love Michael! Submitted by sweetmemories2b (Lawrenceville, GA. USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
