Then strangers with nothing apparent in common, except that they're being murdered one by one. Stars John Cusack, Ray Liotta and Amanda Peel. Special DVD features include a branched version of the film with an alternative ending and additional scene, director's commentary, deleted scenes with commentary, on the set, filographies, more. IDENTITY, directed by James Mangold, is a thriller set at an isolated motel in rural Nevada during an unrelenting rainstorm. With all roads washed out and all forms of communication dead, a group of people become stranded at the motel along with the shifty manager (John Hawkes). Among the stranded are Ed (John Cusack), a former cop turned limo driver; Caroline (Rebecca De Mornay), a self-absorbed actress; Paris (Amanda Peet), a prostitute attempting to escape her profession; Rhodes (Ray Liotta), a cop transporting a prisoner (Jake Busey); Lou (William Lee Scott) and Ginny (Clea DuVall), bickering newlyweds; and George (John McGinley) and Alice (Leila Kenzle), a married couple travelling with their young son. Soon the waterlogged lodgers start dying in mysterious--and brutal--ways, and the increasingly dwindling number of survivors must discover the killer to prevent their own demises.
Riveting from the opening sequence, Mangold's suspenseful murder mystery wastes no time in turning on the tension. Realizing that truly scary cinema comes from the unknown and the unexpected, Mangold and screenwriter Michael Cooney keep the audience--and the film's characters--in the dark and continually create situations that go from bad to worse for the luckless travelers. Cusack anchors the film as the resigned but noble former policeman, while Peet reveals a depth previously unseen in her other movies. Actors such as Liotta, McGinley, Hawkes, and De Mornay round out the fine ensemble cast. As with many thrillers, IDENTITY has a big twist, but because of the filmmakers' excellent slight of hand, it's unlikely viewers will predict the bizarre outcome. Theatrical Release: APRIL 25, 2003 Identity Reviews: "...Stylish....A clever twist on the old strangers-stranded-in-scary motel plot..."
-- Kevin Harley, Total Film 4 stars out of 5 -- "Mangold's noir thriller plays like Agatha Christie meets Alfred Hitchcock....A thriller that satisfies the grey matter, IDENTITY deserves to be seen."-- David Richardson, Ultimate DVD "...Mr. Mangold handles the revelations and reversals of Michael Cooney's script with nerve-racking aplomb. There are horror-film conventions -- eerie sounds, slow camera movements, half-open doors and carefully arranged shadows -- that retain their effectiveness..."-- A. O. Scott, New York Times "...John Cusack is convincing....With moments of mind-bending creepiness..."-- Claudia Puig, USA Today "...Delighting in his own considerable cleverness and cineast's knowledge of movie history, Mangold shuffles the elements like a three-card-monte pro..."
-- Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly "...A snappily executed little thriller..."
-- Todd McCarthy, Variety "...With a third act that causes us to rethink everything that has gone before. Ingenious, how simple and yet how devious the solution is..."
-- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times "...Sleek and clever....IDENTITY is fine escapist fare with a saving sense of humor..."

Identity Movie Review Average Rating: (3.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Dissapointing... just plain bad... Okay the first hour of the movie isn't really any better than your average horrorflick, but then in the movie something happens that just makes you hate even watching the first hour and just want it all to end quickly...
Watch Scream, Scream2, I know what u did last summer HEY Horrible Doctor Bones is better than this...
A Definite skip, that you wont want to see more than once Submitted by D3strukchun (Sweden) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
A very good movie! While this well constructed, modest thriller is not perfect, it is a terrific, contemporary film noir that is well worth the time of any lover of the genre. It's a low key chiller that is well done and will stay with you a while. Submitted by slake2 (Saratoga Springs, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
this movie is so scary and so cool You have to see this movie. The whole
time I was watching it I was spell bound. It has one of the greatest openings. It is so cool the way the 10
strangers all meet at this motel on a
rainy, stormy night. Ray Liotta and John Cuscack were great. A different role for John Cuscack but he is great.
After you watch this movie you will
keep thinking about the plot and you
will put the pieces all together. Get this movie it is so creepy and scary.
It takes place at dark and it rains all
through the movie. This is one you will
want to buy. Submitted by a movie and music lover (Hoover, Alabama) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
the best thriller this year this is the best horror/suspense movie this year. The usual suspects with a little alfred hitchcock style to it to scare the pants out of people, especially when you see who is the one behind all this at the end. Let's just say, I will not have a family for awhile after seeing this movie Submitted by a reviewer (buffalo, new york usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Good performances, Poor mystery If there were ever any stronger proof that the "serial killer" genre has become a tired and worn out formula, "Identity" takes the cake. Striving to be a cross between the chills of "silence of the Lambs" (of course) and the corkscrew noir of "The Usual Suspects", it's nothing more than just that-a riff on 2 groundbreaking thrillers with no life of its own. The shocks delivered only laughs, the twists arrived well after the movie telegraphed their approach so far in advance I was groaning for it to catch up with me. Seriously. I had the main "twist" pegged from viewing the ads on tv. If anything, John Cusack deserves mention for nearly carrying a reputedly ensemble picture with the only performance not bordering on mere caricature. Everything else was right out of a "Friday the 13th"-style 80's slasher movie. And, as it turns out, the screenplay is the work of the author of both "Jack Frost" AND "Jack Frost 2", the laughably atrocious horror series about a killer snowman. $10.29 James Clayton is fired up. A bartender by night and computer hacker in the few hours of daylight for which he manages to leave his water bed, the kid is flying high, on a roll with a laid-back lifestyle that suits him just fine. Played by an agile Colin Farrell, Clayton is also a heartthrob with his five o'clock shadow and chiseled pecks. A cushy job offer from Dell computers peaks his interest in securing a professional career, and at the same moment he meets Walter Burke (Al Pacino), a recruiter from the CIA. Though Clayton's better judgement tells him to stay away from the shady Burke, he is curious to learn whatever he can about his ...
