(1 Customer Review)
Freight Train Heart became a huge hit for Jimmy Barnes, and with good reason. It followed on directly from the blue-collar rock of Bodyswerve and For the Working Class Man, yet managed to create its own identity. While it may have lacked complete originality ("Driving Wheels" is a simple update of "Working Class Man"), Barnes managed to make this set of songs an instant classic, thanks to the strength of singles like "Waitin' for the Heartache." Slightly more polished than For the Working Class Man (but never losing sight of its pub-rock origins), Freight Train Heart nevertheless runs neck and neck with that album for the title of Barnes' best release. ~ Jonathan Lewis

Freight Train Heart
$8.39 Like Journey's Escape, Big Prize is a choice piece of mall rock. Crisply produced by fellow Canadian Bruce Fairbairn, who went on to greener pastures with Bon Jovi and Aerosmith, the album benefits from one of the greatest kickoffs in history with "Bad Attitude." Drums and keyboards date '80s rock, but "Bad Attitude" adroitly weaves 'em together for a dreamy bridge, before principal songwriter and guitarist Derry ...

| | Triumph Just A Game CD (1979) Remastered
Freight Train Heart
$10.29 All tracks have been digitally mastered using 24-bit technology. Triumph's first worldwide release, Rock & Roll Machine, had managed to capture the attention of many hard rock and heavy metal fans (as well as some borderline prog rock nerds), but still many more remained suspicious of the Canadian power trio's similarities to that country's established elder statesmen, Rush. Thankfully, 1979's Just a Game would see Triumph taking measures (albeit discreet ones) to establish a stronger personality of their own, by relinquishing some of those progressive tendencies in exchange for a generally bluesier, unquestionably rock-based songwriting approach that eventually defined them as slightly heavier foils to their famed countrymen. Another in-house production overseen by bassist, keyboard player, and all-around peacekeeper Mike Levine, Just a Game once again balanced an equal number of compositions from dual lead singers and songwriting forces Rik Emmett (guitar) and Gil Moore (drums). But whereas ...

"You Don't Even Know Who I Am" was nominated for 1996 Grammy Awards for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song. Patty Loveless expanded on the success of her comeback album, Only What I Feel, on its successor, When Fallen Angels Fly, which made the country Top Ten, went gold, spawned four Top Ten singles, and was named the Country Music Association's Album of the Year. Songs like the feisty hit "Halfway Down" had a bouncy rockabilly feel, and Loveless rode the rhythms well, while on the ballad "Here I Am," another ...

Wicklow, Ireland; Dinosaur Studios, New Orleans, LA; Egyptian Room, New Orleans, LA. Director: Peter Willison. Photographer: Cindy Palmano. Arranger: John Philip Shenale. Highly ambitious, challenging, idiosyncratic, and confounding, Boys for Pele expands on the more experimental and progressive tendencies of Under the Pink. Amos frequently discards traditional song structures and employs wide-ranging, eclectic instrumentation in her music, while her lyrics seem to grow even more obscure, giving the album a very impressionistic feel. While there are certainly worthwhile moments, her experiments don't always work; some of the songs fail to stick, and it takes a few plays before many start to sink in. Ultimately, Boys for Pele is polarizing: Some Amos fans will only admire her more for taking the ...
