| | Mya Moodring CD Mya Discography of CDs
Young R&B siren Mya's voice first caught national attention with her song-stealing chorus on Pras's everpresent 1998 hit "Ghetto Superstar" from the movie "Bulworth." After that, it seemed the youthful singer with the dulcet, yet surprisingly acrobatic voice seemed to be everywhere; providing the hook for the theme to "The Rugrats Movie," teaming with Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, and Pink on "Lady Marmalade," and releasing her own records, as well as making a memorable acting turn in the blockbuster CHICAGO.
Mya's third record MOODRING reveals her cinematic connection to be no coincidence, as it's full of drama, from the theatrical vocal phrasing to the lush production. Despite a gentle countenance, Mya's no fading flower, asserting her intellectual and sexual prowess throughout the album, from the first track "My Love Is Like...Wo." Mya's brazen attitude is perfectly tempered by an engaging pop-R&B approach straight from the playbook of the Jacksons' vintage '80s work, the best balance coming on breezy tracks like "Sophisticated Lady" and "Late."

Purchase Moodring CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Mariah Carey Daydream CD (1995)
Moodring album
$7.55 All songs co-written by Mariah Carey except "Open Arms" (S. Perry/J. Cain). Samples included "Genius Of Love" (as performed by Tom Tom Club).
DAYDREAM was nominated for 1996 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year and Best Pop Album. "One Sweet Day" was nominated for Record Of The Year and Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals; "Fantasy" was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance; and "Always Be My Baby" was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
On DAYDREAM, Mariah Carey's singing expands the panorama of its emotional release--her voice, having been a strictly powerful pure instrument, now taking on the thespian strategies of great vocalists. She has added subtle understatement to her bag of tricks. On the hit single "Fantasy," a groovin' piece of soulful pop based on a sample of the Tom Tom Club's "Genius Of Love," the chorus layers generous helpings of her voice. But rather than featuring the high-pitched lead she's famous for, the vocal parts reflect off each other in penetrating harmony. When she gets to cooing the key "I'm in heaven..." refrain as the fade-out hook, Carey's voice carries ...
| | Mariah Carey Butterfly CD (1997)
Moodring CD music
$7.59 "Butterfly" was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. "Honey" was nominated for 1998 Grammy Awards for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song.
A mature and contemplative Mariah Carey emerges as if from a chrysalis on her seventh album, displaying her now-familiar otherworldly vocal abilities tempered by a new restraint, as well as an infallible ear for irresistible rhythm-based, hook-laden music. BUTTERFLY's uptempo songs, including "Honey" and "Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise)," are flawlessly produced and catchy, and the title track soars with the spirit of independence and freedom.
BUTTERFLY is full of such hopeful, uplifting moments, but it is equally infused with a deep sense of sadness and loss, as displalyed on the album's numerous ballads, most notably "Breakdown," a simple, ...

| | Thin White Rope Sack Full Of Silver CD (1990)
Moodring CD music
$9.15 Sack Full of Silver is, in many ways, one of Thin White Rope's most fully realized sets, blending the group's early alt-psychedelic influences and a growing taste for dusty Americana flavors. Having completed a 16-date tour of the Soviet Union, the group collected covers of Marty Robbins, Lee Hazlewood, and others for the Red Sun EP, followed shortly by this batch of originals penned during the trip overseas. Like all Thin White Rope releases, Sack Full of Silver is defined by the voice of Guy Kyser: the aural equivalent of the flat, parched, endless landscape his characters seem to inhabit. Sobering realizations, like dead ends, await them around every corner. In an environment where failure, desperation, and hopelessness are common currency, adding up one's losses and moving on feels like a great victory. It's clearly ...
